paprotective 362
Every decent and clean looking option says to cut the tang. I will be picking up Monday (hopefully the FFL will call me) my 54R in 20" model of the Ver 01.. Option #1. VEPR internal block ACE 8 1/2" stock (will need to test the LOP) Hogue PG Option #2 VEPR internal block Pig Nose adaptor Mil-Spec tube Ambi Sling mount (I have) MagPul ACS-L stock Hogue PG Option #3 BoneSteel Arms Folder Stock for VEPR and uses AR tube & stocks.. $150 MagPul ACS-L Stock Hogue PG Option #4 Krebs VEPR block (no cutting needed) $100 for just the block. One of the above options on it.. Option #5 Tapco T6 collapsible stock for AK's Hogue PG DPH internal VEPR to AK stock adaptor block. (no cutting of the tang) Keep in mind I am leaning toward the CSS AR type tube slotted forearm, or the SGM tri-rail (i read the 20ga version will fit the 54r maybe).. I am also shooting mostly in NJ which means I would need to PIN the AR type option, and no hinges allowed either.. (though I will buy a hinge for when I get out to TX..) thebuns1 4,323
I dont know. Thats a tough call. Im leaving mine the way it is for now. I need some diversity and after shooting it in its stock form, I really dont mind it. If it were me, Id put the krebs on it so its not a permanant mod and still give you the flexability you desire. Either way you go though I think it will look tits. Im going to hold out and hope that Ironwood will come up with a more traditional stock option for these slant cuts. Of the options your considering, #2 sounds appealing.
paprotective 362
Option #1 is $142 Option #2 is $197 Option #3 is $272 Option #4 is $110 and then price of #1 or #2 on top.. (granted I don't cut the tang but the OAL is concerning).. Option #5 is $121 (granted I don't cut the tang and the stock is cheezy..) New Option #6 is $221 and includes AR/AK Tube ($70), Hogue PG w/nut screw, DPH no cut adaptor block, MagPul ACS-L stock.. this will look much better than option #5 but is $100 more... and I would be modding (aka dremeling) the AK/AR tube to fit into the DPH no cut (made for wood stock) adaptor.. Side note SGM announced a VEPR Tri-Rail for mid Oct or Nov roll out so I may wait on the HG options.. Edited September 23, 2012 by YWHIC
BpS12 512
I cut the tang on my S12 to bullpup it and and NO regrets. Worst case, if you find you really need it, it can be replaced or welded back in place. Good luck
theorangeplanet 968
At that price range you should also look at the Black Horse Arsenal dragunov stocks. I'm pretty sure they don't require the removal of the tang and come in 180 and 230 dollar flavors.
paprotective 362
I didn't like my drag stock I had on my 308 Saiga.. don't think I want to go that route on the VEPR.. I looked at there site a few days back.. Edited September 24, 2012 by YWHIC
U.S. Pratorean 1,234
I would cut it and not worry. These two are early Robinsons imports and although not a 54R a folder can be easily applied. So the versatility to me supercedes the cosmetic factor.
