zeus1gdsm 2
Looking to get a 7.62x39 16in barrel... Can i just put a bg in and call it a day and use preban mags here in Ny? (it awb still in effect).. or would i need to replace the gas tube and handguards to achieve. 922r compliance? Rifle will be for hunting and shtf. Also any greater accurracy with the longer barrel? Brian M1 50
There is a TON of 922r threads on here, however to answer quickly. NO. You cannot just add a bg and standard (30rd) capacity mags and be legal. As it is imported, it is in "sporting trim" designed for use with LOW cap mags. As soon as you do ANYTHING to it to accept standard mags... you have violated that "sporter configuration" and it is now illegal. To make it legal, you must add enough US domestic parts to render the rifle no longer "import" (enough to US parts to be considered, now, a "domestic" firearm). The parts count, and which parts, are in the thread "922r compliance" (or some title like that).
zeus1gdsm 2
So then id end up being better off doing a full conversion... is there any reason to get the longer barrel? The rifle would be for hunting
hutchsaiga 93
Not really. There is not much benefit to a 20" over a 16" barrell with 7.62x39. And the extra 4 inches makes it far more cumbersome.

Bigtwin 219
As for the 922r game, Brian M1 has it to the "T"! As for your states laws, I do not know. You will have to the footwork on what is acceptable (I live in CA so I understand the frustration, I think NY is the only state more screwed up for gun laws than CA). As for the extra 4" with the 7.62x39, I do not think there is much benefit from all the folks that have posted and have the 20" version on accuracy.
rnemhrd 165
I live in NY. I would convert the gun. After shooting it stock with the funky linkage and converted with the tapco G2 it's a night and day difference.; I would order this. http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-713/SAIGA-RIFLE-TRIGGER-GROUP/Detail a Advanced Technology Elite Strikeforce Stock set it to the length you like and pin it. Can't collapse in NY. Just google pin AR butt stock. AK purists hate it but AR butt stocks on an AK are nice and the ATI comes with a cheek riser if you want optics, and is solid for the price. Google it. It would be less than 200 for parts and furniture to convert it that will take off 4 Russian parts and add 4 US parts and be able to use pre ban 30rd mags. You could add a US for arm stock for 5 US parts if you choose. You could trim the fat more and re use your trigger guard and get an AK style US butt stock. I had one and hated it. Watch some youtube videos on converting it. It realy is'nt hard. The gun really will shoot better due to a better trigger. The trigger will be 100% better. If I missed anything or I'm not correct someone please chime in.
