evlblkwpnz 3,418
Looks very original. I'm digging that safety too. Give us some build details.... barrel length, gas length, finish, parts used, etc.. Can't wait for some better pics. Very curious as to what that color really looks like out in the sun or in white light.
JoshAston 39
12" barrel, had it shortened by Adco, also had them move the gas block journal back 2" and weld up the old gas ports. Op rod was made by Tom Cole. He also welded up the receiver for me. Shortened the gas tube myself. Safety is an R&R Targets that I installed. Guide rod and pistol grip adapter are from Jack Travers. Handguard is a Carolina Shooter's Supply. Pistol grip is a shortened Umbrella Corp. Had Pauly polish and reprofile the bolt and carrier. Finish is Alumahyde II Coyote which is almost a perfect match for Magpul FDE. I'll try to get some better pics outside once sun comes up.

evlblkwpnz 3,418
Looks about like it could have came from the factory that way. Great build.
ec4321 113
Josh - Awesome work. How easy was the R&R Targets safety install?
getboth 14
What was your total investment, more or less?
JoshAston 39
Measure twice, cut once. After that, actually getting the thing in is a pain, you've got two springs, two ball bearings, two levers, and the center piece to maintain control of. ETA: Rough guess, I'd say $2,000, I don't keep track though. Edited October 20, 2012 by JoshAston

gunfun 3,931
I do like that safety. I didn't realize before that it was ambi. Why did you want to shorten the PG?

JoshAston 39
I do like that safety. I didn't realize before that it was ambi. Why did you want to shorten the PG? Not a big fan of long pistol grips, I've got pretty thin hands. The Umbrella Corp grip is pretty long from the factory. Also forgot one detail, the R&R safety doesn't have any kind of stops built in, nothing to prevent it from spinning other than the detents. So I installed safety stops. Drilled and tapped the receiver for 4-40 cap screws ground down to look like rivets.
gunfun 3,931
Interesting. Did you do it on both sides just for symmetry?
JoshAston 39
No, just the right side. You can see them in this pic, Edited October 20, 2012 by JoshAston
garnaz 215
Like the safety not a big fan of the original ak safety. Like the simple but practical Look. Nice build

You might remember my bolt/carrier from a couple years ago. I was in Alaska at the time, sent it in without the op rod attached. You said it cost almost what I paid just to ship it back to me. ETA: Rough guess, I'd say $2,000, I don't keep track though. John I just received my AR safety from R&R, mine only came with 1 (ONE) ball bearing and 1 (ONE) spring in the package!!!! Are you certain it was two of each.... I'm sure you are, I just have to ask...
JoshAston 39
Mine is a couple of years old, I know he redesigned the levers to look more like an AR safety, might've redesigned the workings of it as well, I don't know. I just talked to Robert at R&R, he's sending over the missing spring and ball bearing, I"m just gonna send the gun to him to install the safety...
