Vepr 2 threaded barrel

Recommended Posts

Hello,

New member here, long-time lurker. I recently picked up a Vepr 2 and thought I'd share a picture of the threaded barrel with the thread protector removed (a small way to pay back all the folks that've posted tips/picts that helped me so much with my Saiga conversions). I was anxious to see what these threads looked like and how to remove the cap, so I dove in last night. I used my Dremmel to grind down on the weld point until I saw a sliver of daylight. I then broadened the ground down area until it was pretty thin and then unscrewed the cap, breaking off what was left of the ground down area and the welded plug. Enjoy...

TGI was the importer.

From the description on the CenterFire site, the type 2's have a spot-welded on thread cap. Judgeing by another thread here regarding removing the pinned on threadcaps, these were relatively easy to remove; not much finesse involved here (thankfully).

I've a VEPR-201 and it looks like I don't have a threaded barrel...

I don't see any pin or weld and the end of the barrel does no look like there is a cover.

The manufacture date on the box is 1-2012

Comments?

Will post a picture soon

I dont think that all of them are threaded. I seen a few in my local shop that did not have muzzle caps, and a few that did. So I guess its hit and miss on whether or not you get one that is threaded.

Like Ive had PZ tell me before he was banned, if the importer orders it that way, then thats how it comes. Id guess that they may buy so many of both types to be able to sell to certain areas where threaded barrels may be illegal.

How are you keeping muzzle devices attached to the integrated sight models? The flash hider I want has no wrench flats, chinese type 83 copy. Will a 14mm crush washer plus some high temp thread locker do it? Maybe a filter wrench to tighten it?

A jam nut or a crush washer should do fine. Same with thread locker.
