devilfish13 6
Go ahead and kick me in the balls for an obvious question, but will the commercial round-trunnion bullet guides intended for Saigas etc... fit a round-trunnion Vepr? I'd like to convert my rifle for hi-caps (US since I like the stock/handguard), but want to know for sure that I don't have to take special steps for it. Thanks a bunch guys! thebuns1 4,323
Yes you can use a bullet guide for a Saiga for the Vepr trunnion. Ive got one on my Vepr and it feeds just fine. It may or may not take a tad longer to get it tapped, but works just the same. You may also have to take a bit of material from the catch, depending on the mags. devilfish13 6
Awesome, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I've already replaced the fcg with a Tapco G2 double-hook (ground the trigger, not the receiver - receiver's too pretty)... started filing the catch but haven't had time to get very far on it with the crappy hand tools I've been using, will try the die grinder on it if I get up the courage to speed up the cutting. After that all that is left is the muzzle device (I have a hider and the tip is definitely threaded under that pinned nut), I have a Tapco mag specifically for this rifle since I don't really want to replace the gas piston. Eventually I'll get some better US mags, but for now this is good enough, given that I'm just hunting paper for now.
mikebaker1129 19
Bonesteel arms sells a great US made piston, they cost a bit more, but they are worth it !
devilfish13 6
If you have a threaded barrel, don't you need six total compliance parts? I have four between the fcg and flash hider, and the US mags bring it up to seven. I could get away with milsurp mags if I replaced the follower and base, but if I replaced the piston I'd still need to replace the follower... I really like my walnut furniture and would rather not have to change that for compliance...
obiwanbonjovi 337
with a thumbhole stock, you need one less U.S. part. The thumbhole stock only counts as one imported part against you.
devilfish13 6
Will a standard AK piston fit a Vepr?
