Obamasucks 3
won't cycle low brass walmart ammo but will high brass, has a v-plug and lots of polishing of bolt and all things mentionded in postings on prepping the bolt and stuff. gun only has about 30 rnds thru it could this be the problem? i've tried manualy cycleing it to see if this might loosen it a bit. vulcan16 971
Gas ports may be under sized or the gas block may need to be opened up.
OBITUARY 12
Id clean the piston and that area out and do a basic gas port check while your there . You can use paperclip , o ring pick ,or dental pick and make sure they are open and not blocked . If they are not blocked or too small you should be fine with a good polishing and profile of the bolt, bolt carrier, hammer. Jemtech is right sometimes the gas ports are a problem.keep in mind the are angled .
gunfun 3,931
As I just finished posting in another similar thread, it matters what you call "light" Use 3 dram or hotter ammo. That means the weakest ammo you should expect to run is 1 1/8 oz of shot moving at least 1200 FPS. The lighter the load, the faster it needs to move. So a 1 oz slug moving at ~1500 FPS will provide plenty of gas for the system to work with. A 1 1/2 oz load should run as slow as 1095 FPS... When people here talk about "cheap birdshot",or "walmart birdshot" they generally are referring to a particular brand and model: Federal 100 pack or 250 pack multi purpose 3 dram 1200 FPS with 1 1/8 oz of either #8 shot, or #7.5 shot. If your gun will not cycle that on setting #2 with factory parts, you need to systematically address friction &gas delivery. Buying a bunch of parts and hoping it might work is the wrong way to go about this. My signature line has a link to a discussion for a process to getting to reliability. The order I describe should prevent you from wasting money and effort and should result in a reliable firearm.
