joetira 2
I'm planning on buying a Firestorm Muzzle Brake. Does anyone here have any experience with these? If somebody has a recommendation for a better muzzle brake I would appreciate it. The reason i'm choosing this one is that I heard it was effective for the price. I plan on cutting the barrel down to 14 in then adding the muzzle brake. If I do so, does the muzzle brake have to be welded on since it would be under the 18 in legal limit. Also is a barrel locking nut required or could I just screw the muzzle brake on the thread tightly? http://bonesteelarms...rake-12gfsb.htm
S12KS-K 40
If you want that type of brake, I'd get the Molot style. Personally, I'd get the original Russian style like this I plan on cutting the barrel down to 14 in then adding the muzzle brake. Just be damn sure you leave enough extra room for the brake to slide on to get a good purchase when you weld it. If you get the brake you linked: I'd probably cut the barrel at something like 14.25" so when it slides on there's .55" overlap. Maybe even more. The stock barrel is 19". Measure with a cleaning rod to the closed bolt to be safe. Always double check before cutting. Take your time. If I do so, does the muzzle brake have to be welded on since it would be under the 18 in legal limit. YES. ATF has been very clear on the options: Silver Solder (of some spec I don't know off the top of my head) Blind pin Weld (a tack will do as long as it has enough penetration to stay put - just be careful you don't damage the barrel) Just make the weld groove on the bottom of the brake where it meets the barrel and fill it in. It just has to hold and not break off. File it down, tape up the area and spray paint it. If you do good work it won't be noticeable unless you really look at it close.. joetira 2
Thanks for the replies. Something like this sks? http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-1577/MOLOT-GK-dsh-01-VEPR-SAIGA/Detail looks very similar if not the same, cuts on side look a little bigger than the one in that picture. I read an interesting article about competition muzzle brakes some russians were using, only problem is that they are custom made and not for sale for the most part.
