Help me find the perfect 10 round magazine bag!

Recommended Posts

OK, essentially what I'm looking for is something like this Maxpedition Active Shooter bag:

http://www.amazon.com/Maxpedition-Active-Shooter-Front-Black/dp/B002XLHPPC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1354469852&sr=8-2&keywords=maxpedition+active+shooter+bag

The only thing I've seen which comes anywhere close to what I'm looking for is this:

http://acecase.com/m...iga-4-pack.html

If this is my only choice I guess I'll live with it, but I'd love something that would allow me to be able to put in some pistol magazines too - either built on, or via molle attachment.

It doesn't have to be something specifically designed to be a Saiga 12 10 round mag holder - just something that folks know will hold 2-4 magazines with either pistol mag pouches or molle. Any suggestions?

Great idea I picked up from GunFun's video links is to use a Zildjan drum stick bag.

I picked one up this afternoon and it seems to work great.

$12 on sale at guitar center http://www.guitarcenter.com/Zildjian-Drum-Stick-Bag-100156440-i1136117.gc

Not ninja rated or ready for a trip to the sand, but for sheer convenience at $12, it works for me.

That's not a bad idea, but I was looking for something molle compatible. I'll keep this in mind though as an option. I did end up finding a Beta C-Mag pouch on the bay for about $30.00 delivered. This may work pretty nicely for what I have in mind, but will keep on the look out for other options.

I bought 2 of THESE Probably larger than what you want, but it works great for me.... interior fits 4 20rd drums, or over 10 10rnd AGP mags (never counted exactly how many will fit). The outside pouches will not fit S12 mags, but they are molle compatible so you could remove them and put some that are on. I have them filled with AR mags, and when I get my Saiga 308 I'll see if those fit or outfit one of the bags with pouches that do fir the S308. They are pretty decent quality as I've had them filled past capacity and never an issue.

Nice suggestsion, but yea those are big.

Anyone know if the bungee cords on this will stretch long enough to hold a 10 round Saiga mag?

EDIT

I think something like this mike work better - the wider double mag capcity might work for a Saiga 12 ten rounder.

That was mostly a joke. And not even a funny one. I was going to pull it down because of the shame, but if you like it.... glad to help. I'm not sure I did you any favors though. I've been keeping the mags in there since that video just as a convenient way to haul them to the range and keep track of them. I put 3 mags on the outside, and 3 five rounders in the pocket on the back side. I can shove an eight in there too.

I think there is more potential for a lucky fit with pod haulers for paintball. A few of mine would work, but the SGM floorplates and ribs would catch when I was pulling the mags out. Sadly the movable pod packs for the Flurry Industries vest I have to lend to girls (& girly men) wouldn't work at all. That's a pretty cool modular vest. I am not really the tac vest sort, but I think I would make an exception for 3 gun type play.

That AceCase one linked above is the best deal on something of that type that I've seen. I would want to know if it will mount easily on a belt though. It is actually somewhat tempting. The only thing that is stopping me from just ordering that is that I know I will be making belt clips sooner or later.

As for the ones RJ posted just above, I don't think they will fit S12 mags. Some people have made 308 mag pouches work, but I don't think any worked well. If that is the case, any assault carbine mag pouches are going to be way too small.

great. my embarrassing lame video is the third google hit for "saiga 12 magazine pouch" figures that would happen only on something I did that I would rather the whole world didn't see.

This one looks interesting. I think I would rather flip it upside down and hang it on my chest. That way reloading would be one motion of tugging down, followed by lifting the mag upward into the gun without having to flip it over. I think I would also want to make an angled ramp for the part that engages the locking lug so that there is less positive lock.

I went through this, trying to find a surplus pouch/bag/whatever that could be "repurposed" for Saiga mags. Almost any other mag pouch even if it's a double won't work due to the length of all but the 5 round mag. So what I ended up with are radio pouches, specifically the Harris radio pouch. But, ones like the ones I have are hard to find.

I can get 4 ten or 12 round mags in the main compartment with room left over for a couple of 25 round shotshell boxes or, a Promag 12 round drum will fit nicely. There is a pocket on the side that will hold another 2 10 round mags or a few x39 mags. It is MOLLE compantible but when fully loaded it's relatively heavy. I have continued to look for ones like the ones I have so I can recommend them here because I didn't want to bring it up if they're not available but you might be able to find some if you know what to look for, provided you like the idea.

I use this:

us_gear_M1_ammo_bag_main.jpg

Bag - M1- Ammunition. USGI surplus and holds four 10 round mags and two 5 rounders plus extra odds and ends. Sturdy heavy canvas, and works well slung over the shoulder.

Charley's Surplus has a repro of this bag for $19.95 http://www.charleyss... AMMUNITION BAG . If you look around on Ebay you can probably find them cheaper than that for the genuine surplus article...

I think Charlie's is the best price, the only one I saw on eBay is $45.45 shipped. Two things I like about the Harris pouch is the quick release fasteners and it has a piece of rigid plastic built into the front of it, keeps it stiff in front.

@ Rolex John: What did you end up going with?

Mullet Man: I've been looking at M1 ammo bags as well. CharliesSurplus has them at 7" wide. If my dimensions are correct, a Russian 8 rounder is 1 3/8" thick and SGM's are 1 1/8" thick. You can probably fit 4-5 Russian 8's and 5-6 SGM's.

The M1 ammo bag seems like a cheap solution. It would be appreciated if someone could confirm this...

Anybody know what kind of bag this is? Is it the RPK bag? I picked it up at a surplus place, and they had no idea who made it. Fits 10 round AGP S12 mags just right!

Yes, that's an RPK pouch. Designed to hold 40 rd AK mags but also the perfect size for 10rd Saiga mags. Your's is Romanian because of the front pocket. The Russians either have side pockets or none at all.

Chuckles all around but I advise against it. Don't ask if you want me to elaborate, go ask any LEO what they think...

Browsing rusmilitary I came across this...

Modern RPK magazine pouch: This pouch is designed to carry two RPK magazines with a seperate compartment for each mag. Fastened by quick-release buckle & suitable for any MOLLE system vests. Kodra 1000 nylon. Colour - OD. MOLLE (Uniclick) attachments

http://www.rusmilitary.com/images/uniclick_rpk.jpg

About the closest thing the OP was originally asking for. There's a good chance this pouch will fit 10 rounders.

My personal rant about rusmilitary; their site is so fuckin' confusing... At least it's better than Plant-o-Gun!

I can get four 10 round and two 5 round mags in mine. Plus shooting glasses in their case, and a few other things. You could probably get 5-6 ten rounders in it if thats all you want to carry...
