jtoddellis 2
Will an AK 74 brake work on my 7.62x39. I have already done the front end conversion so it will screw on, but is the hole large enough for the .30 cal bullet instead of what it is designed for.
pistonring8 1
Good question, I never thought about that. The AK74 fires a 7.62x54r right? I guess the bullet diameters could be different. I dont know enough about AKs to know the differance. I do know that there are alot of old bolt action rifles that fire the x54 and the round looks bigger. But I dunno if the bullet diameter is different or not.
avatar 4
I believe on a Military '74 brake you need to ream the bullet hole larger since it is for the 5.45 cal. A 30 cal bullet may fit through but I believe the fit is a little to close for comfort -- recall reading somewhere of problems (don't remember if KABBOOM was a part of it. If you use one of the USA jobs, you are good to go. I would always drop a 30 cal. bullet through just to make sure. Trust but Verify.
okie shooter 0
ak-74 fires 5.45x39(.2145in) so get a micrometer or just a good steel ruler and check the diameter, If you are under a quarter inch rather than just under three eights(.3125inches) then you need to do some work on the break. Do not shoot the rifle with the smaller break, you will eventually send the break down range with the round. or better yet just try a placing a round thru the break nose first at the end. hoop762 0
do a little looking around...it shouldnt be too difficult to find a AK74 style brake that is made for 30cal
