American Capitalist 7
You should have done more research... I hate to break it to you, but the gas tube and retainers are going to cost you $300. I wanted wood furniture on my Saiga a while back until I saw that. http://www.dinzagarms.com/saiga_12/aks12.html
misterT 174
You can just put the lower fore grip on using the Dinzag mount which is only $49 http://dinzagarms.com/saiga_12/bor1220.html If you want to dress up the upper a bit without spending the $300 for the gas block conversion I have read that you can use an SKS vented cover on the gas tube like this one for $10 http://www.ebay.com/itm/400066157568?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649 I have not tried this yet myself but they are said to fit like they were made for the Saiga 12. Good luck with your conversion I love the look of a good wood stock especially the Ironwood designs.
universal_exports 18
Ouch, and they are sold out of everything, guess I'll be doing a black gun like many here PS, I guess I am going to have a wood stock set for sale.
universal_exports 18
been thinking, maybe I will do a custom front handguard like the one in this pic, (the gun in front). Edited December 25, 2012 by universal_exports
truthcult 1
Doesn't Ironwood make a Saiga-specific set? If you ordered that, it skips the top cover and (I think) is a bolt-on for your 12.
misterT 174
I just checked Dinzag and it does not show the lower etainer sold out http://ww10.aitsafe.com/cf/add.cfm?userid=C3255014&product=BOR1220++Bolt-On+Ret+AK&price=49.00&return=www.dinzagarms.com/saiga_12/saiga_12.html I believe that this would also work, though it is made for a Galil style fore grip the basic dimensions are the same as an AK fore grip http://ww10.aitsafe.com/cf/add.cfm?userid=C3255014&product=BOR1220++Bolt-On+Ret+AK&price=49.00&return=www.dinzagarms.com/saiga_12/saiga_12.html
grommit666 24
I have read that you can use an SKS vented cover on the gas tube like this one for $10 I wouldn't count on being able to get a gas tube that works. Even if you manage to get a tube with the retainer on it, the upper handguard will block the rear sight. The problem isn't the tube, but the rear sight block. The answer is the Dinzag gas tube and RSB. Dinzag is a good guy and his products are top notch. The only question is if you want to spend the money on it. You can send in your old hardware to him for a discount. Make sure your handguard and stock fit well. I had to do some pretty extensive dremel work on my lower handguard and my stock had enough wobble in it that part of it split off. Ironwood made it right though. Over all, I think it's worth it. It's a fun project and you get to meet some of our better forum vendors.
Nemo61066 10
I got tired of looking for a nice wood furniture set at a afordable price, so I made my own. I have more work to do on making the colors match but feels good shoulderd. Edited December 29, 2012 by Nemo61066
SouthernKahrCarier 0
It's a judgement call based on how much you want to spend. I went with the Russian Red stained wood from Ironwood. Then I realized how much it would cost to get the hardware from Dinzag to mount it, but deceided to go ahead and do it. I had to get the lower retainer, rear sight block, and front sight, and had him put that finger notch on my safety. All the items I got from both Dinzag and Ironwood where high quality, and good looking. I also put a Stormwerks folding mechanism with a Mako shock absorber on it. It was, for me, very expensive. I will keep it forever because it is beautiful, and I put a lot of time and effort into converting it and making it what I wanted.
