It’s tough being an anti-gun radical like Michael “Big Gulp” Bloomberg these days.

The former New York City Mayor has pumped millions of dollars into his fanatical effort to get gun control passed. 

But that money was no match for the massive grassroots resistance that awaited him.  Even liberal media outlets like National Public Radio were forced to report on the unparalleled strength of GOA’s grassroots:

The result?  Bloomberg lost an epic battle in the U.S. Senate last year -- even while media pundits predicted his minions would win.

Within the past year or so, the Bloomberg forces lost ground in several states and failed to pass expanded background checks in many places where GOA was active (like Nevada and New Hampshire). 

Having suffered so many defeats, Bloomberg is trying to make an end run around elected legislatures by forcing referendum votes around the country.

And to that effort, “Daddy Warbucks” has pledged $50 million in his crazed effort to remodel this country’s gun laws to resemble England’s.

Turning most gun owners into criminals

Bloomberg’s first attempt at buying a state is in Washington. If he is successful in the Evergreen State, simply owning a gun -- without making a tiny mistake which would land you in jail -- will be like dancing barefoot in a pit of scorpions.

Bloomberg’s proposal -- an initiative which will be voted on in the November election -- is 18 pages long.  So the only thing most Washingtonians will know about it is the lies Bloomberg is paying to spew over the airwaves.

Bloomberg’s minions have more than a dozen similar referendums planned around the country for 2015 and 2016.

All of this means that educating and mobilizing the grassroots -- and the next generation -- becomes even more important.

To that end:

Prospects Look Good on this Election Eve

Dear Friend,

It's no understatement that tomorrow is a big election.

 

Anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg has committed to spend $50 million to help advance gun control nationwide.  And he's already made good on his threat, spending millions of dollars on anti-gun candidates and ballot initiatives around the country.

Not surprisingly, there are reports of voter fraud surfacing in certain localities -- given that many state laws make it difficult to prevent illegal aliens from voting, and the current White House has sued states which have tried to put up barriers to such illegalities.

But all of that will not matter if America's pro-gun majority gets out and votes tomorrow.

Opinion polls indicate that Americans are disgusted with the direction our country is going, and so by Tuesday's end, we expect that there will be a huge change in the Senate.

 

Even the liberal Washington Post estimates there is a 96% chance that Harry Reid will be dethroned from his position of power.  But again, this won't happen unless pro-gun voters around the country get to the polls and change the make-up of the U.S. Senate.

The opinion polls are encouraging to be sure, but NO CHANGE will occur if good people don't actually get out and vote.

So please utilize and circulate GOA's 2014 Election Guide -- and encourage your pro-gun family and friends to get to the polls.

Harry Reid to Take One Last Shot at the Second Amendment in the Lame Duck Session

About April 15, millions of Americans will realize (perhaps for the first time) that they have been assessed a fine of hundreds of dollars for not complying with the anti-gun ObamaCare law.         

Gun owners despise this law because of concerns that a national health database could be used by federal bureaucrats to disarm law-abiding Americans, in the same way that more than 175,000 military veterans have already been disarmed.

 

But this April 15 will hit millions of additional Americans in the pocketbook.  At that time, Republicans will want a legislative vehicle (such as a “Continuing Resolution”) to block IRS enforcement of this wildly unpopular mandate. But, if Congress gives Obama a carte blanche through September 30, this will not be an option.

 

Before the new Congress is sworn in -- this coming January -- the Republicans are still in the minority in Harry Reid’s Senate.  Thus, the most effective course of action would be to convince House members -- and especially Speaker John Boehner -- to refuse making any long-term deals on the CR.

This will give the new, pro-gun members of Congress who arrive in January a stronger hand in using the CR to protect gun rights.

Given Obama’s “veto pen,” all of the pro-gun policy for the next two years will probably be achieved on the “Continuing Resolution” -- or not.

When April 15 hits -- and millions of Americans are hit with hundreds of dollars of ObamaFines -- Republicans may be able to create a massive fight over ObamaCare’s unconstitutional mandates.  

This could be the best chance that gun owners have of eliminating a backdoor gun ban -- where health data is compiled on millions of Americans and used to disarm gun owners (similar to how 175,000 military veterans have already been disarmed).

But we can’t do it without a short-term CR.

Finally, with respect to the anti-gun amnesty provisions Obama is about to illegally promulgate by executive fiat?  You can address these in a Republican controlled Congress. But you can’t, so long as Harry Reid is in the catbird’s seat.

So please let Speaker Boehner know that Americans didn’t put Republicans into the majority so that they could then cede all of the spending and policy decisions to Democrats for 37.5% of the next congressional term.

It’s time for the Republican leadership to show some backbone. And the first step is a short-term CR.

"Decision Day" Quickly Approaching on Whether Obama and Reid Will Dictate Gun Policy for the Next Ten Months

Tell your Representative to support a short-term CR.

 

We knew that giving Boehner 247 Republican members and McConnell, 54 GOP senators, was not going to solve all of our problems -- and allow us to relax for the next two years.

And, sure enough, it took Boehner and McConnell only a few days to hoist the first white flag of surrender -- on a transcendently important issue.

Let's face it:  None of the "Republican agenda" legislation being planned by Boehner and his minions is going anywhere.  Not Keystone Pipeline.  Not a repeal of the anti-gun ObamaCare law.  Not anything.

 

Rather, all government spending and policy will be contained in a single bill:  the government-funding "continuing resolution" -- or "omnibus."

So now, the debate raging in Washington is this:  Do the newly elected Republicans allow Reid's discredited, repudiated "lame duck" Democrats to write a "continuing resolution" or "omnibus" which will set all spending and gun policy through September 30, 2015 (the end of the fiscal year).

Or do they do a short-term bill, which expires in January, February, or March, and allows the newly elected Republicans to make these decisions?  Certainly, the new Republicans would make gun-related decisions which would be much better than those made by Reid in the next ten days.

Better decisions on whether to extend Schumer's ban on forgiveness for "prohibited persons."  Better decisions on whether to defund ammunition and firearms import bans implemented by Obama. Better decisions with respect to anti-gun ObamaCare provisions.

 

So why would Boehner and McConnell, who trumpeted the benefits of a Republican Congress, seek to cede these decisions to Harry Reid?

The answer is that, if all important legislation goes away until September, House conservatives will lose their ability to force Boehner to stand up to Obama -- in any context where it matters.

But at this point, the war is waging -- and the outcome of the battle is up in the air.

Boehner has offered to do short-term funding for immigration, but funding for ten months for everything else.

While not nothing, this Boehner "compromise" does nothing to keep Reid from implementing bad policy on guns -- or ObamaCare -- or virtually anything else.

The good news is that Pelosi has rejected the Boehner "compromise," and virtually all Democrats will therefore vote against it.  This means that the defection of only a few pro-gun conservatives will kill the anti-gun deal -- and force a short-term CR which allows newly elected Republicans to decide gun policy.

Boehner is expected to try and bludgeon conservatives into submission.  Whether he succeeds may depend on you.

 

ACTION:  Contact your Representative.  Tell him to support a short-term CR which will allow Republicans to decide government spending and policy, rather than Harry Reid.

Loretta Lynch Needs to Come Clean

-- Or Be Defeated!

 

 

Loretta Lynch -- nominated to replace Attorney General Eric Holder -- is making the rounds among Senators.  

So Gun Owners of America is asking Senators to force Lynch to go on record with respect to the legality of anti-gun actions by the Obama administration. 

GOA’s pre-written letter provides five very important gun issues to which Lynch needs to respond.

But, if Lynch refuses to answer them or answers them wrong, she needs to be opposed.

So please contact your Senators.  Ask them to vote against the confirmation of Loretta Lynch unless she fully and satisfactorily states that she will uphold the Second Amendment and gun owners' rights

Boehner Joins Hands with Pelosi to Defeat Conservatives

 

-- Action brings Boehner’s legitimacy as Speaker into question

 

 

...House Speaker John Boehner is now faced with "snowballing opposition" to his plan of passing a ten-month carte blanche funding bill for the government, crafted by Harry Reid on the Senate side and by a House that has a lot more Democrats than it will have after January 6.

The Boehner abomination is called the “Cromnibus” -- a combination of the initials for "continuing resolution" (CR) and "omnibus."  This monstrosity would do nothing to stop the implementation of the anti-gun ObamaCare law (which Republicans said they opposed). 

And, while the “Cromnibus” will probably stop some gun-related Obama abuses (such as implementation of the UN Arms Trade Treaty), it is not expected to address problems like ATF's routine copying of a dealer's 4473's in connection with a routine annual inspection. Nor will it defund much of Obama’s anti-gun agenda.

 

Is it any wonder that liberal anti-gun Democrats like Rep. James Moran (D-VA) have embraced the Boehner approach?

 

Now, in a move that is the political equivalent of treason, Boehner is countering hemorrhaging support among Republicans by asking Nancy Pelosi to provide the votes necessary for passage. Given that the “Cromnibus” will define virtually all government discretionary spending and policy for the next ten months, this is like turning over control of Congress to the Democrats for 37.5% of a congressional term.

 

But pro-gun forces are countering Boehner's perfidy tit-for-tat.  The Chairman of Gun Owners of America has promised that GOA will score support of the Boehner-Pelosi bill as an anti-gun vote. 

Said GOA’s Tim Macy:  “If we had wanted Democrats to control Congress, we would have voted for them.  Instead, we give Boehner a 247-vote majority, only to have him cede control to Pelosi, Reid, and Obama over every important decision for the next ten months.”

 

GOA has even raised the issue of whether a Speaker who has more regard for the minority than his own caucus should continue in his position.

 

ACTION:  Contact your Representative.  Tell him or her that support of the Boehner-Pelosi deal will be considered an anti-gun vote.

As Congress considers budget legislation, the NRA respectfully urges that the interests of law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen be protected from the ongoing attacks of the anti-gun Obama Administration.

 

The NRA has worked hard to include numerous pro-gun provisions in the House of Representatives’ budget that would protect lawful gun owners and prevent federal government harassment and overreach on your right to Keep and Bear Arms.  Importantly, the House of Representatives also includes a provision to prohibit the Obama Administration from banning the trade and sale of lawfully-owned ivory, which is contained in many antique firearms (click here to see the initial grassroots alert).

 

The NRA supports efforts to stop poaching and the illegal trade of ivory.  However, banning lawfully-owned domestic ivory will have no impact on elephant poaching in Africa.  On the contrary, such a ban would affect only honest, law-abiding Americans by making their possessions valueless.

 

In a previous Grassroots Alert, we highlighted that the Obama Administration has begun a series of executive actions aimed at banning the sale and trade of ivory.

 

Please call your Representative and Senators at 202-224-3121 and urge them to pass legislation that prohibits a ban on lawfully-owned domestic ivory and holds the Obama Administration accountable.

 

Your actions today may determine if the sale and trade of firearms that contain ivory, as well as the importation of sport-hunted elephants, will be banned.  The NRA is currently meeting with offices in the House and Senate, and we will continue to keep you informed as this issue progresses.

Boehner-Obama-Biden Team Slam Anti-gun Funding Bill Through the House

The anti-gun government funding bill, which passed late Thursday night (December 11), now goes to the Senate. 

 

As a matter of substance, the bill spends hundreds of millions of dollars to fund Barack Obama's illegal executive actions on guns. 

 

Not only that, the bill fully funds the anti-gun ObamaCare law (which threatens the privacy of millions of gun owners) and the President’s illegal executive amnesty (which begins a process of legalizing millions of new anti-gun voters).

 

To defeat the bill in the Democrat-controlled Senate will presumably require only 41 votes because of the ability of Senators to filibuster. While, admittedly, it is a "hail Mary" pass, it is one worth throwing. 

 

Contact your Senators and ask them to vote against the anti-gun government funding bill, both on cloture and on final passage (which will probably consist of a vote on concurring with the House amendment).
