Spetnaz Soldier 47
Hey guys I have a Saiga 7.62x39 and I finally ordered an ak style gas tube but I ordered this..http://ak-builder.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30211. Will this fit since its an Ak-47 gas tube or did I mess up and shoulda ordered a 74 style?
hdskumm 39
I'm pretty sure it needs to be a 74 style, got mine from K-var and it said it would specifically fit saiga's. check this thread http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/77573-russian-ak-gas-tube-wont-fit/
BigChongus 765
The one you ordered won't be drop-in, but it is VERY easy to modify them to fit.
Dave 1
You'll probably have to do a little grinding on the rear of the gas tube, but it'll work.
Spetnaz Soldier 47
On the part that locks into the locking lug?
pyzik 597
On the part that locks into the locking lug? Yes. It's very easy to do, it's what I did. THIS IS NOT MY PHOTO, I just edited it. Here is where you'll need to file.
rnemhrd 165
^^^^ Did the same. File untill it locks. A little at a time. You can't put the metal back. What lower hand guard retainer you going to use? I assume your changing the handguard too. Edited January 8, 2013 by rnemhrd
Spetnaz Soldier 47
No I actually have a chaos saiga 7.62x39 quad rail because the bolt on lower hand gaurd retainer i ordered for 50 dollars from CSS failed me so i said screw it and got the chaos cause it had the bolt on type lower handgaurd retainer. Wana use the gas tube for cosmetic purposes (i really like the way they look). Now Im affraid to try any other bolt on retainer but i hear saiga-ak.com has a really good one im just affraid to file into my barrel for the screw..
pyzik 597
I have Dinzag's bolt on retainer. It's been on for about five years and hasn't moved. EDIT: My rifle is not a "fighting" rifle and only gets typical (medium) use. It gets tossed around a little. Edited January 8, 2013 by Pyzik

pyzik 597
It's just an illusion from the photograph. They are the same length. Kinda how these mags don't look the same size really. But they are. Edited January 8, 2013 by Pyzik
Spetnaz Soldier 47
Whoa thats trippy. Thanks man.
rnemhrd 165
I have the Saiga-ak.com retainer. The groove you file in the barrel is the same as what a AKM with a factory retainer would have. It holds well.
Spetnaz Soldier 47
oh ok i think ill try it then.
Spetnaz Soldier 47
...so i got the gas tube and its pretty nice. I filed where needed (only at the top just a little bit) and it fits tight. I didnt even need to use the retainer spring from the old saiga tube..is this normal? do ak tubes not need the spring? Spetnaz Soldier 47
So i just got back from shooting with my new gas tube installed. everything went good but im still curious if it fits too tight if it affects accuracy. i really dont see how it could but could someone with ak-47 gas tubes going on saiga 7.62x39's school me on this?
