Which ammo works the best for you, and which is the worst?

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. ― Marcus Tullius Cicero

Can't vote as I've only ever used 7N6, but I've gone through over 2,000 rounds of it without an issue. Cheap and more accurate than I am.

7N6 is reliable, accurate, with good terminal ballistics. I've experienced failures with Russian commercial steel case production ammo and would only consider it for range use. The only acceptable self-defense ammo for 5.45 is 7N6 and the Hornady round.

Silver Bear 5.45 is the most accurate with WPA a close second.

I have never had a failure of any kind in any Kalashnikov with Silver Bear in any of the calibers I shoot and I have never had any failure with any military or commercial 5.45 with three different Saigas.

Come to think of it, Ive never had a problem with any 5.45 ammo. I'll go with the stuff that was made in soviet Russia, but I feel it would all perform well. I do like the offering from Hornady as well, but I cant seem to find any 5.45 at the moment.

I've often been tempted to try the Hornady, but it almost seems sacrilegious to pay more than umpteen cents a round for 5.45 lol

Its pretty good ammo. Its price is the biggest drawback, but at least its not for a 20 rd. box. lol

been trying to get some hornady, but the backorder date keeps getting pushed back. I think they are instead putting employees on the ammo that is selling like crazy right now like 223.

I just bought 200rds of the Hornady today at my local shop. It was all he had left, and I said fuck it. If I didnt buy it, somebody else would have, and Id be out the ammo. I mainly bought it cuz I cant seem to find shit for it at the moment, and I aint opening my spam cans that I have put aside. Ive been on a hoarding mission for some time. lol.

I've used all but Tula. All three that I've shot have performed equally, but the Wolf and Silver Bear are both non-corrosive, which is a big plus over the 7n6.  Between the Wolf and Silver Bear, I prefer the Silver Bear's zinc plating to the steel Wolf.  I voted Silver Bear.

7n6 isn't bad, but Silver Bear is more accurate and non-corrosive. I'm not afraid of the clean up with corrosive, but if I can avoid it without spending a huge amount, I'll do it.

after building a 5.45 rifle I noticed that 7n6 seems to fit it my guns just a little tighter than silver bear, thus creating a tighter head space which helps accuracy.  this is why i prefer 7n6,  but i like any of it i can get my hands on.

I hoard all the sealed tins of 7n6 I get,  and shoot the wolf/silver bear I pick up, plus whatever loose surplus I come across.  I have noticed that the silver bear is the flashiest and sootiest of them all.

Got a sweet 75 yard group today over the iron sights using 7N6. I was sighting another rifle, and decided to run a quick 3 rounds through the 5.45 (the range only allows 3rds per mag for rifles). Threw it in the rest for the first time, as I always just rest on the mag. Here's what I got:

Also, this was my first time firing the rifle after polishing the trigger group.

Wait. You can only fire 3 rounds per rifle? Or just 3 per magazine?

Just 3 rounds per mag for rifles, 6 rounds per mag for handguns. No limit on how many mags you run though. It is annoying sometimes, but it keeps the range civil, and tends to limit the crowd to serious shooters.

Dubs likes to shoot 20 +. With his 12gauge. Makes for loud fun.

Was that quartet sized group unsupported? Because if you can see that target well enough at 75m to do that yo should shoot pro.

No it was supported by a v-notch arrangement at the hand guard, and I had my fist under the stock. Unsupported would have made use of the entire target lol.

Managed to pick up some Tula and Hornady loads, so next range trip I'll attempt to compare groups at 100yds.

I don't have an answer, but will the difference really become more apparent as target distance increases?

100 yards all probably do fine, 600-1000 yards powder variation and such will increase effects, right?

Yeah, but so will the effects from everything else. You're dealing with a lot more variation due to wind and uncertainty in scope placement.

The 7n6 works the best in my rifles. The only other ammo I have used was tula and that was total crap.

New it was rusting on the plastic clips. Huck Poo.

I have the best luck with Golden Tiger (SGAmmo sells it) and 7N6.  Hornady was decent too, just not cheap, and no better groups than 7N6.
