dubya 198
I just bought 2 40 round plastic Bulgarian AK mags (7.62x39) at a local store for $30. Has anyone used these before and how well do they work? Also, i have an unconverted Saiga and was wondering if i install my bullet guide and grind the mag catch down a hair, is there any possible way i can use my Surefire Saiga mags and these new 40 rounders after the conversion? Also is the brass cased Chinese steel core ammo any good? I have a lead on some and would like to hear what you guys think. Thank you
Spetnaz Soldier 47
Dont say steel core in here they are illegal.
dubya 198
You sure? Im not questioning your knowledge but I've read a few places where it says they're illegal for import but if they're already here it's fine. My buddy just tonight bought an 800 round can of Federal 5.56 steel core ammo at fleet farm for $359.... Edited January 28, 2013 by dubya
Spetnaz Soldier 47
Im pretty sure law enforcment doesnt want civilians to have steel core ammo. Very penatrable.
dubya 198
Well yeah they dont WANT us to have it but as far as i know its still legal. Judt like my bronze T6 5.7x28 ammo i jist sold on gunbroker for $8 a round
BigChongus 765
No experience wth the 40rd Bulgies. As for the surefires, you may have to shave the front tab a bit, and they will have a bit of wobble, but they will work.
dubya 198
The wobble will be annoying but if i can still use them after the "conversion" to take normal AK mags I'm a happy camper. Thank you.
semper299 284
If you are talking about the bulgy poly mags, there are a few varieties of them out there. The ones with the steel lips are supposed to be really good, but I have no experience with them.
dubya 198
Yeah i got the flat side (slab side?) 40 rounders with metal lips.
semper299 284
I hear those are really good. I had ordered some slabsides from classic, but I called just to make sure they had steel feed lips. They didnt, so I cancelled and went with polish mags instead. Gotta say, I am pretty impressed with the polish mags.
dubya 198
They're a tad loose but seem good quality. I haven't shot anything mags yet, im waiting until Saturday when my new AR comes. I have 6 different AK mags i need to test so it should be a fun day! First time ever shooting an AK. pike_mazter 1
Steel core ammo illegal? First I've heard of this. I know most ranges won't allow it because it penetrates their backdrops. I had and shot some years ago, wouldn't mind having a few hundred rounds now JIC.
dubya 198
Yeah its not illegal at all. Just banned from import in the early 90's. There's a ton of it on GB if you don't mind paying 75 cents/round. I just got 40.
semper299 284
I reload a lot of the 62 grain steel core milsurp bullets for my ar. They are cheap and plentiful. Good zombie bullets.
