I realize these movies keep getting more and more ridiculous, but that picture seems pretty over the top.

A running Datsun is a miracle on its own, one outrunning what appears to my a '67 'Stang and an M1 Tank is even more unlikely. Or is that an early Celica or some other hunk of shit?

First of all, you don't know exactly what is happening in that scene. I just watched them filming part of that scene and the Mustang was driven in front of the tank on purpose, as if they were trying to stop the tank or something, it wasn't a full on race. Second of all, a car such as that "Datsun" set up for rally racing could EASILY beat a heavy Mustang, come on man. Those Mustangs are were not super fast or great handling from the factory. With work done on both of the cars, I think you might me surprised how fast a little car like that would be. Also, that car you hate so much is actually also a Ford, it's a Ford Escort. Ford Escorts saw plenty of use in racing and there were special racing versions. I hate to tell you, but there will likely be a lot of unrealistic shit in this movie, that Escort Mk1 being fast is not really one of them.

U mad

With enough money you can make any turd fast. But I see these movies to be just purely entertainment and full of cool special effects so.... Flame on. I will say that the first fast and furious movie happened at a time when import street racing was the norm and there were a lot of fast and furious style street racing in my neck of the woods. I miss those days, my little neon with a 75 shot of nitrous laid waste to a lot of imports.

Trailer looked good. I, not being a F&F guy, really enjoyed the last one "Fast Five".

I passed out watching it and never got around to finishing it. I enjoyed the first F&F, but they never seemed to engage me again. I'll probably watch 6 when it comes out. The g/f loves them.

Thanks for the info, MT!

I've seen them all. First one was when street racing was very hot. Got even worse afterwords. 2nd was eh, 3rd was not much of a starter, loved the first car, putting rice into american is just as bad as putting a ford motor into anything besides a ford.(oh wait they but GM motors in fords so they can go fast, ROFLMAO). 4th was ok, a take back. fast five was pretty good. Kinda can't wait to see the extended 3min trailer that will be released tomorrow onf FB.

The truth is the big three are all making fast cars now. We are living in the good old days. But what's the reason knuckle draggers swap gm into ford ? So they can have a car that looks better than most of the generals and is light enough to make that gm engine seem fast. ;)

This is the famed Datsun 510. My buddy has been looking for one to put his 6cyl. nissan motor w/6 speed tranny into. Very rare car apparently. They were used a lot for racing on more Local levels apparently. Great handling little cars. If you want to see great battles on the track between old Mustangs and old Minis ans Escorts and the lot, look into british vintage saloon racing. Mustangs rule the straits and the Minis rule the curves. Epic racing......many many makes of cars racing each other.

Have you been to the States? There is a seemingly endless supply of 7 second Mustangs around. And they allweigh about 800-1000lbs more then those Datsuns. tongue.png

Edit; BTW, to the GM hater above....

The Dodge Garage! I love that guy's site. I just wish he was still updating it!

He kinda went into hiatus after his brother died. Gary is working on another Relentless, but no dates set in stone. He still pops up on turbododge.com every now and then, though.

Look how many 100% STOCK US factory cars run 13s and better, and look AMAZING! Stock Mustang GT: Mid-13s. Stock Camaro SS High 12s. Stock Challenger mid-13s. American Muscle is BACK!

Hell, the old Super Bee was only a 14 second car! That's easy to beat now.

Not to mention, that even with ''''''Less heavy steel" used in the body, A new 2013 Camaro weighs in at either 3,860lbs. or 3,913lbs., depending on model, while a 1968 Camaro, base model V8 was 3,105 and options and engine chioce coud raise that to around 3,705 fully loaded. If the new ones are still cutting time off, I'd say they are doing well. Most of the added weight is comuters, electronics (power seats and windows etc.)

There wasn't a factory Camaro built that could boast the same specs as the Gen 5 Super Sport. The fast Gen 1s lacked the horsepower and the capability to get the power to the ground efficiently. Even the 427 COPO Camaros were were lacking in comparison although they were not factory cars. The Gen 5s have the power, transmission, and traction control to conquer all previous models hands down. Yes, the latest generations are heavier but they do come with power windows, moon roof, and seats plus leather which all add weight but makes them more pleasurable to ride in. Also, the wheels and tires are bigger and heavier yet far better performance-wise. I've owned Gen 1, 2, 4, and now a 5. The others were a blast to drive, all were modified, but my Gen 5 is the most fun and it's still stock. Then there is the ZL-1 which may someday replace my SS. That's a beast for the money!

If I go on purely looks and styling alone, I would say I think the best year for muscle cars overall, to me, would be 1970, I think the Camaro had the split bumpers in '70, or 70+1/2.Wven the Datsun 510 from then looks great in race trim.

I think I'd be happy with the looks of any muscle car from 1970.
