Russian Flash hider on S-20 C/K?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering...have seen some pics of SBS Izhmash factory S-20's, but don't believe I have seen one with a flash hider. Seen them unthreaded, with a muzzle nut, and with the external choke mounted (on the common 20K photo also with Saiga rifle handguard).

Have heard the Russian FH is a long unit with round and moon shaped comp ports, and a birdcage forward of that.

So the 10 slot (or 6?) was never used on the 20 ga.?

I am thinking of acquiring an IZ-105. And one part of a long, as funds allow, conversion project is to have the barrel chopped and rethreaded, install a Dinzag FSB and had a Dinzag AK-74 Zigzag brake preferably (or his Bulgy 24mm 74 Flash) permanantly attached to make 18.25", perhaps port work if it needs it which probably shouldn't (at least 15" of barrel and only concerned with reliability in defensive buck/slugs). The real bitch, a 100 series or Triangle folder installed which will be murder, parts and labor but worth it to me...until a month after it's done Arsenal starts putting them out complete with folder, ready to run for a fraction of what it'll cost me. This will take a while so will most likely run a Warsaw length K-Var stock. Tapco FCG, RAM TG, some US puck, US standard AK PG or MD Arms Molot style (or US Palm AKPG). Want to keep the factory stock Forearm, if not see if the Saiga rifle FA can be made to fit or the Izhmash S-12 FA that has a rail up front @ 6:00 (I like the X300 light for HD, I do not like rails or US designed forearms except the old Tapco Galil style, but again not on this shotgun. If I wasn't trying to keep it Eastern looking as possible, would be down with the rear sight getting milled out and a RMR put there too).

Russian 5's and a couple 8's at least. Russian sling.

Somewhat expensive due to the preferred stock and barrel arrangement, but also pretty K.I.S.S., light, streamlined, lean and mean. How I like them. I like all the Russian style Type 030's, Vepr's, AK-74 style Saigas, etc. But this would be the one to work best for me. Nothing wrong with an Ace folder or anything, but definately want just a basic non-SBS 20K which I had hoped would start being imported by now after that non-sporting decision. I figure 20s are probably going for MUCH less than a S-12 these days, and I like 20 ga., everything about it except ammo cost and to lesser degree availability (plenty of selection for me). First Saiga I heard of was text and a pic in a 1999 article by Leroy Thompson on Guns of the OMON, it was a 20 ga., 12" or so unthreaded, with a Bulgy triangle, regular AK PG, and a 5rd. Fell in love at first sight, piss on an M-3 Kromo or M4 H20, that little 20 ga. SBS is all the shotgun I could ever want*. So, living in a non-SBS state, figure that brake on a shortened barrel plus the FSB would aesthetically at least appear to be shorter. And should not be under 26" folded either even with the milled in Russian folder, couldn't get it in MI then either (as with Uzi carbine folders, AMDs, AK underfolders, etc).

I do know if I purchase one firearm to beat a ban, need to replace my Saiga shotgun. After that, hopefully there will be time for a VZ-58, PSL/M76/custom 16" .308 Saiga or Vepr, a PTR-91GI (dare not even dream of a Scar 17), FNP-45 Tactical, and a RPB SM-11/380 or SM-10/45 (or 9) or Interdynamics KG-9 open bolt. Plus an AR lower I guess just to not never have one

*Not gonna lie, the infamous AKS-12U is that shotgun. The Poly Krink Handguards and hinged cover, Russian Poly folder, even what appears to be a Bulgarian 4 pc. comp and Bulgy machine gun grip...I truly thought was something worked out between Izhmash or Molot and Arsenal or those who work with both in areas behind what used to be Iron Curtain, for Mil/LE sales. Nailed that perfect custom gun, a snubnose of a sawed off mag fed auto 12 gauge and the rifle of Soviet Empire in current micro/PDW/SMG trim. it is tasty, and has that genuine AK/Russian look to it. But there is just no getting that one to look right and be non-NFA, nor should it try. Perhaps a "AKS-12UR" could be ordered built and sit around ugly til one relocates? Then a stamp in the mail, hacksaw and file..?
