Vepr super side mount issues

Recommended Posts

Bought one of the Super Veprs from Centerfire Systems. Came with a side mount rail and a Molot AK scope mount. The rail was welded at the top left of the receiver and is offset to the left to hang over the wood stock on the left side. Because of this, the scope mount the rifle came with places the scope too high and too far left.

I'm looking to see what solutions folks who bought this rifle have come up with.

Hey DaveinGA post up some pics if you don't mind. I have a super like you and mine is a bit high as well. I just want to see if yours is similar to mine or much higher. I have been able to zero in with mine which BTW, took quite a bit of time.

Here's a couple pics of mine:

Rail related to wood. Notice how high it is on the receiver. Almost up to the bottom of the dust cover.

Top view to show how rail is mounted and how far left.

Have a look at the Kalinka weaver top mount - it is much better than the side mount. I found the side mount was too flexible.

The super has a dovetail on the rear sight that this mount clamps on to. The rear "legs" need to be removed from the mount.

I agree this is the mount that should have come with the rifle, but I think a better solution than removing the rear support legs from the mount is perhaps to remove the side rail, then install mounts for the rear legs of this scope mount.

I looked at installing rear mounts, but the later top mounts didn't have the legs anyway. I removed the legs & found that the top mount with a heavy Bushnell 4-12 x 42 trophy was much stiffer than the side mount.

only two issues I have with this mount,

  1. Certain objective sizes are too large for it and require you to fiddle with the camlock excessively to lock and unlock it.
  2. the finish quality is poor especially on the cam lock screw, it starts to flake after minimal use.
