man-at-arms 2
I'm not too concerned about how shiny it ends up, I just want the black gone. I thought brake cleaner in a ziplock freezer bag would've taken it off but nope. Sorry if this has been talked to death, I don't have the best connection where I am (cheesy non-smart phone in rural area).
Dad2142Dad 6,559
Acetone works pretty good with a light sanding with really fine grit.
ChileRelleno 7,071
Easiest? A quick trip to your local machine or body shop, $20.00 and/or a 12pack of beer, and they media blast it, quick and simple.
Captken 6
I found out when cleaning mine the other week that carb cleaner will wash the paint off.
gunman1 1,753
I used my dremel with a buffing pad and the red polishing compound that you get in the kit. Not only did it take the paint off, it polished the metal smooth as silk
poolingmyignorance 2,191
Acetone and a red scotch brite. green doesn't hold up as well.
Spacehog 2,218
Methylene Chloride paint stripper available at any hardware store. No scrubbing, sanding, or anything. Soak 10 min and rinse. All traces of the black will be gone. Of course then you will want to polish it up sans the methods in the posts above.
dgyver 13
I media blasted mine. I like the matt finish look. Plus it hid all of the machining marks. Taped off all of the polished areas first.
SouthernKahrCarier 0
+1 on the Dremel and red jewelers polish that comes with the Dremel.
misterT 174
An old gear head trick to clean up engine blocks was to use "easy off" oven cleaner it strips everthing off, in fact I read where one guy was pissed after he did this with the engine in the car. Becasue it disolved the insulation on the wiring and many of the plastic parts! I dont see any reason why it would not work on gun parts definately as stated before rinse it very well and keep in mind any "non stainless" steel parts will begin to rust almost immediately after being stripped! Reminds me of a guy who used synthetic turbine oil in his ride, ate through every seal and gasket
