To continue where that thread left off, it seems that their could be a fundamental difference in view between pre-grunge metal (hairbands), and post-grunge metal (death metal, speed metal, etc). I would argue that they are each metal in their own time and each has their place, I just don't think the two are that easy to compare. To light the debate, here's one of the most well known and endeared hair band songs that I can think of. CRUE! Wild Side! All metal will be accepted. Favorite singers, musicians, just plain loudest? I started it to get a massive collection of kickass metal in a database here for all to enjoy, not have a bunch of arguing little girls whining about what is and is not metal. I got to share a stage with them (post Ivan) about a year or so ago. The 2nd vocalist, Angel, was a whiny little bitch and the two original members fired the rest right after that show. I honestly never would have thought anyone here would be familiar with them! Or that we had as many metal fans here. We went from super high vocals, standard guitar tuning with a Marshall and more than likely Celestion Greenbacks to drop B sevenstrings through Mesa Boogies and 5150's loaded with Vintage 30's and vocalists that growl instead of howl.... It's apples from the same tree in my opinion.... As long as makes you get that stomp on it feeling in your gut, you know it's metal...
