XD45 7,124
NOTE: THIS WEAPON WILL NEVER BE LEFT LAYING UNATTENDED. THERE IS NO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT TWEAKERS STEALING IT. I admit this is not my original idea, but I'm happy to steal it. Case for DeWalt DC3851 Recip Saw This is what the guts looked like originally. With a dremel and a saw blade I removed the internal bits. Don't try using a cutoff wheel. The plastic will melt and ruin the wheel. Internal dimensions: 23 3/8" x 8 5/8" x 4" When I get the sbr done I'll get some good foam and make cutouts. NOTE: THIS WEAPON WILL NEVER BE LEFT LAYING UNATTENDED. THERE IS NO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT TWEAKERS STEALING IT. Edited March 2, 2013 by Darth Saigus
romad7 75
I may have to use that too, thanks!
Deadeye 325
I use those tool cases a lot I found a metal putty spatula for sheetrock mud and heat it on a hotplate works great for removeing the internal crap plastic. just get it real hot and push it under and it cuts the plastic like butter flush and perfect. SaigaKen 338
Cool I just bought a paint ball gun carry case for $20....fits my SAM7K perfectly with a few pouches on the outside
Matthew Hopkins 1,065
hey, I though I was the only one that thought about using a tool case for transporting firearms. I picked up one of those DeWALT case last year at a garage sale, I paid a whole 1 dollar for it, I use that to transport several handguns to the range, it was much cheaper then buying a large pistol case, and much more easier then hauling 4 handguns in each individual case
gunfun 3,931
I use tennis racket cases for my paintball guns, and have a bunch of soft padded one strap backpacks that would do for this perfectly too. My dad got them for $1 each.
evlblkwpnz 3,418
A backpack works great and doesn't look like an item that would be great for taking to the pawn shop. ETA: I just chunk the weapon and mags in and let it rattle around. Just remembered that most people are a little more particular about their shit than I am, lol. XD45 7,124
I'm amazed at the number of people who think somebody is going to steal this thinking it's a saw. Do you think I'll just leave it laying around??? I'm not worried about anybody taking it to the pawn shop. If they take the case from me they'll have to do it under fire.

In Jax, we have a lot of pill heads, crack heads, and pawn shops full of tools. Dewalt is a hot item around here, literally Well, we can't hover over our stuff 24/7, but I do keep a couple of key items with me at all times. Even when things are in the safe, we are not always home and criminals may have enough time to get in it. There is always some window of opportunity for thieves who are determined or drug addicts who are desperate.

Anybody that doesn't keep a close eye on their nfa items is an idiot. And when it's in the safe it's not in the box. So I'll say it again. I'm not worried about the box attracting theives. gunfun 3,931
I'd like an actual steel box like the porter cable bosch or tiger sawsalls come in. make a way to lock them to the floor under your truck seat out of sight. Those ~krinks look like the perfect truck gun, and if I could have one, I would sure be looking for a way to secure it in my vehicle so that I could relax if I stopped by the store on the way back from the range. Just to be clear, I think your box is cool.
XD45 7,124
If we lived in a truly free country a krink would be a $300 gun and we'd all have one in our trunk or truck box.

macbeau 902
I use tennis racket cases for my paintball guns, and have a bunch of soft padded one strap backpacks that would do for this perfectly too. My dad got them for $1 each. I use sports equipment cases (tennis, Softball that I get from Goodwill for everything.... My DRACO SBR is one now. My S-12 sits in another. My ammo / mag case is an "electronics" case and holds 7 mags w/ ammo. Music cases still work too. A modern nylon Alto Sax case is perfect for an SBR AK
gunfun 3,931
I've been keeping an eye out for a convenient way to bring an s12 and ammo to the range by motorcycle. So far those soft backpack style guitar cases look like the most workable, but I don't love them.

I love the saw, but now I feel robbed... ------------ In regard to Dewalt theft, seems like some zip strip, goo gone, or a DA would take that decal off. Then you'll really be rolling stealth! gunfun 3,931
A few bosch tools still come in metal boxes. Maybe you need some german tools? Old camcorder cases were pretty nice too. I have one full of all the knives that weren't nice enough to use or give away.

My DeWalt cases have the logo molded into the case and the letters are then colored. I guess you could remove the yellow off the letters. My buddy built the same case for his AKS-74U. It is good for covert carrying it but who leaves a NFA firearm unattended in a vehicle anyway? My other friend carrys his MP-5K and mags in a laptop bag.
dolomite_supafly 56
I have thought about using a cooler to store stuff in a vehicle. I would buy foam layers to seperate items or build compartments. They generally have handles on them and are water and air tight. Another thing to prevent people from messing with it is to mark it "Human Organ for Transplant" or "Biohazardous Materials". I realized that using tool cases was a bad idea because of all the tool cases in the pawn shops I frequent. I think if a bad guy had a choice of a tool or a firearm most would choose a tool. Right now my truck gun is in a soft case under the rear seat. Dolomite
XD45 7,124
My "truck" gun is in a soft case in the trunk of my car. But it's a $200 norinco pump. Don't know if you noticed, but this case is being used for an nfa item. You know, the kind of thing you DON'T leave unattended in your vehicle... I feel like I'm repeating myself... I've edited the op so that people can stop worrying about it being stolen. And if YOU leave your nfa items unattended, please do NOT use this case. Hawgleg44 1
I'm still waiting on the Form 1 for my AK. I was going away for a long weekend with my wife for our anniversary and I always bring along more than just the handgun which is on my hip from the time I wake up until I go to sleep. I wanted something that is compact, has enough power behind it and also shoots readily available ammo. My solution was to bring one of my several 1897 Winchesters. I know it's 100% reliable and I've even qualified with it for off-duty use before. I have no problem trusting my life to it. I took some measurements and went to Dick's to find a duffel bag that had the needed inside dimensions. Using a Nike bag is even that much more "covert" since Nike is a piece of s*** anti-gun company to begin with. I started with a piece of 1/4" Lauan plywood cut to size to fit on the bottom. I then hot glued a piece of 1/2" foam to cover the entire piece of Lauan. I used some thick, rigid foam left over from some Pelican case projects and cut out the shape of the 1897 taken down, and hot glued the cut foam on top of the 1/2" foam already glued to the Lauan. Toss some clothes on top of the shotgun and nobody knows it's there. When my stamp comes back I'll make another setup so my SBRd AMD-65 will fit the same way.
wasrNwarpaint 184
I too use a tennis case for my ak truck gun, I was fortunate to find a 70's hardshell locking case I like
DavidQ 170
I had an M92PV that I had a guitar hero case for. Fit like a glove and couldn't even tell that it was a gun. Paid $2 for it at the goodwill. It was the ultimate "sneaky" bag. I have some pics if anyone wants to see it.
