Dorian7 2
So I finally got around to finishing up the handguard conversion on my rifle and I ordered a non-vented tube. To my suprise I noticed that it doesn't have the holes drilled in the gas block. My 7.62 did but not my 223. The stock tube is also non-vented. Does anyone find this strange? liberty -r- death 1,445
Mine are not vented. You can add vent holes by just drilling a couple. There is an old thread somewhere on it.
billdozer 6
one of mine has the holes and the older one doesnt. I added one to the older http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/82748-another-conversion/
dubya 198
I just yesterday picked up a 2012 production S762 and had one already from 2003. The new one is vented the old one isn't. Guess it's okay either way.
mancat 2,368
The vents are there to bleed out excess gas. The purpose is to prevent fouling of the gas system and receiver. Without the vent ports, you will get more gas/carbon blowback through the gas tube, past the piston, and into the receiver. Easy DIY job to drill the ports, though it isn't necessary and has no effect on gas pressure or the gun's operation. Edited March 2, 2013 by mancat
