spectre30 11
Just got this BP 02 "low" centered mount from Kalinka (yeah, I know). This mount seems really high in my opinion. This is for my 54r and I want a solid scope mount platform. I put my scope on, but it was more of a chin weld than cheek weld. I have a AKARS on my 39 that I love, but I don't if it will hold zero with 54r recoil. Is there a lower BP 02 style that will work, or should I get another AKARS or TWS? and who would be interested in this one?
JESS1344 508
SPECTRE, THAT'S NOT THE LOW ONE, I'VE GOT MINE SITTING ACROSS MY LAP AS I WRITE THIS, TO COMPARE. I'D BE TAKIN' THAT THING BACK TO WHERE EVER YOU GOT IT, AND GET THE "REAL" LOW ONE. I ORIGINALLY USED THE KALINKA MOUNT, AND THEN SWITCHED TO THE AKARS FOR A LITTLE LESS WEIGHT AND GENERAL ERGONOMICS, AS I HAVE AKARS ON SOME 'X39's, BOTH MINE AND A FRIENDS, AND LIKE THEM. I ENDED UP TAKING THE AKARS OFF, BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WASN'T HOLDING ZERO, AND PUT THE KALINKA BACK ON IT. IT WAS ONLY WHEN I WAS USING A LASER BORE SIGHTER TO RE-COLLIMATE THE SCOPE, THAT I REALIZED THAT THE WANDERING ZERO WAS BECAUSE THE PIECE-OF-SHIT KONUS 1-4X SCOPE HAD DEVELOPED A YARD OF SLACK IN THE W&E ADJUSTMENTS; LIKE 1 1/2 TURNS OF EITHER DIAL BEFORE THERE WAS ANY MOVEMENT VISIBLE. SO, I SAID FUCKIT, THE KALINKA CAN STAY ON IT, AT LEAST FOR NOW, AND I DITCHED THE KONUS AND BORROWED A BUDS MILLETT 1X4 DMS AND GOT IT DOING ABOUT 2 1/2MOA AT 100YDS., USING THE NOVOSIBRSK 148GR. WHITE BOX. NOW I'M GOING TO HANDLOAD FOR ACCURACY, SO I DUG OUT AN OLD LEUPOLD 16X I USED ON THE DIVISION RIFLE TEAM BACK IN THE MID-'70's, AND PUT IT IN THE KALINKA MOUNT. I ALSO DUG OUT SOME NORMA UNFIRED BRASS I'VE HAD SINCE I BOUGHT A CHINESE TYPE 53 IN THE MID-80's AND DIDN'T USE IT ALL, AND TONIGHT PREPPED THE BRASS AND SEATED SOME FEDERAL 210M PRIMERS. LATER TODAY I'LL POUR UP SOME IMR4895, AND CAP THEM OFF WITH SOME 174gr. .311 SIERRA MATCHKING #2315's. SPIN 'EM UP TO CHECK AND CORRECT FOR CONCETRICITY ON AN OLD BROWN PRECISION CONCETRICITY TOOL, AND OFF TO THE RANGE. THEN WE'LL SEE WHAT THIS PUPPY CAN REALLY DO, ACCURACY-WISE. ONE NOTE ON THE AKARS, YOU WILL HAVE TO CUT THE EJECTION PORT APPX. ONE INCH FARTHER REARWARD, TO MATCH THE 'X54R RECEIVER COVER, AS WELL AS CUT THE UPPER EDGE OF THE PORT HIGHER TO CLEAR THE LONGER AS WELL AS FATTER CARTRIDGE. ALSO, YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THAT DUST COVER THINGY THAT COVERS THE REAR OF THE BOLT CARRIER, OR ELSE IT WILL HIT THE PIECE OF THE REAR BLOCK THAT IS IN THE TOP REAR OF THE AKARS RECEIVER COVER, WHEN THE BOLT CARRIER COMES TO THE REAR. I'VE REPLACED THE BUTTSTOCK WITH AN ACE SKELETON FOLDER, WITH THE BOLT-ON CHEEK RISER TO RAISE MY LINE-OF-SIGHT UP TO THE SCOPES CENTERLINE. LOOKING TO REPLACE THE WOOD FOREND WITH SOMETHING ALUMINUM, QUITE POSSIBLY A FUGLY. A RECOMMENDATION, ONCE YOU GET THAT @!%&*$#~ PINNED-ON MUZZLE BUSHING OFF, IS TO REPLACE IT WITH THE PRIMARY WEAPONS FSC-47 MUZZLE BRAKE. IT WILL REDUCE THE RECOIL TO DAMN-NEAR THAT OF A 5.56 AR, SERIOUSLY, AND ALSO DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB OF MINIMIZING THE FLASH, AND THAT'S WITH RUSSIAN AMMO (I DON'T THINK THAT THEY'VE CAUGHT ON WITH THE WHOLE FLASH SUPRESSANT COATINGS FOR GUNPOWDER CONCEPT YET.) spectre30 11
Thanks for all the info guys! I plan on handloading as well as soon as I get a die for it. Also plan on getting a flash suppressor too. Thanks again. I am interested to see your results on the hand loads.
volkov 318
Great.. I was about to order a Bp-02 from kalinka. Now I don't know what to do. That would seriously suck on my rifle.
paprotective 362
They make a BP-02 low and BP-02 High.. Looks like yours is the HIGH (or regular) version.. Maybe they sent you the wrong one.. There site can be confusing.. My low centered sits like this on my 54R. Very close to the cover.. There is a notch in the BP-02 mount to see thru to the rear leaf..
