jdcanter13 0
Hi all, I am new to this site and new to owning a Saiga 12. I have heard about people moving the trigger up and adding a pistol grip and folding stock with these conversion kits. I am also very interested in doing so. I went to all the main sites, CarolinaShootingSupply, MississippiAutoArms, and TAC-47's to look at the trigger conversion kits. Most of them seem to be sold out and who knows when they will be back in stock. I saw on another forum this site: http://www.dinzagarms.com/misc_parts/convkit.html. I was wondering if this was a legitimate site to buy from? Also, does it matter which trigger conversion kit I get to the collapsable stock and pistol grip I want? I don't want three different parts that don't work with each other. Please let me know your thoughts and opinions. Thanks so much, Josh

dubya 198
I buy almost all my stuff from CSS. They ship within 24hrs usually. You're better off building your own kit anyway because you actually get to choose the parts. You'll need things like the Tapco modified G2 trigger group make sure its the S12 one, a pistol grip & a pistol grip screw (And possibly a nut if you don't get the truggerguard with a nut built in), a handguard if you want a different one, and the stock parts depend on what you want to use for a stock. I suggest not cutting the tang, you can always do that down the road but can't put it back on (very easily). What stock do you like? You might want a trigger guard too, you can reuse the stock one but there are a lot better looking and feeling ones for sale. I wouldn't mess with any gas system parts until your conversion is done. Don't forget that this forum has its own E Store with a lot of good parts and mags. Edited March 21, 2013 by dubya

Captken 6
Go on youtube and search for Saiga 12 conversions. There is probably a half dozen. Watch all of them one evening. They are all close to the same but each one will have something different in the techinque. Take the good parts of each and go tackle your gun. Its really quite easy once you've watch the videos. You will need the G2 single hook AK 47 FCG, then trigger guard of your choice unless you chose the economy build and use the old one. Butt stock of your choice and pistol grip. misterT 174
You can buy ANY Tapco G2 FCG (fire control group) and modify it fairly easily to work in your Saiga 12. Gunfun a mamber on here has a link in his signature that show exactly what has to be done. You will not need specialised tools either. It is convenient to buy them all ready but supplys are very low everywhere. You can also check with cobra on here he does them too. Spend a little time looking through the picture thread in the S12 forum for some ideas on stocks, grips and trigger guards.

bitters 6
I'm all about CSS. Ordered from them mags/parts/etc. Even did some returns with no problem. Look on their Saiga 12 conversion section, they don't have the kits setup for you, but all the parts are there. They even list what you need to make a full kit. Here is my advice, I literally just converted my Saiga 12 two days ago without much issue. If you order the Carolina Shooter Supply Trigger guard, you DO NOT need the AK 47 pistol grip nut. The CSS Trigger Guard has the nut built in. Just follow the directions on their site. Buy the grip, stock, Trigger assembly, Trigger Guard, hole plugs, and a drill bit. Optional, you can buy a Retaining axis pin to make it easier, and a modified Bolt hold open if you want to use that. Again, just read their instructions on the Saiga 12 conversion section. Some leave the bolt hold open out. After that all you need is a vice, a drill, and some simple tools like needle nose pliers, screwdriver, etc. I put off my conversion for months!! I had never used a drill before and got this done in like 2 hours, most of which was on the trigger assembly. Look up on Youtube, the Carolina Shooter Supply conversion video. I think it's 5 videos. I'm not an expert on stocks/forends, I just used the cheapest ones (lol). Also, if you browse around here there is a discount code for ordering from CSS (5%) Best of luck. You can do the conversion, and it will actually feel like how it should.
misterT 174
Don't you think it'd be easier for a self admitted newbie to just buy the S12 modified one since they're the same price and in stock? The OP said NO one had them so I suggested that he COULD modify one, but yes I do agree it would be much easier to buy one already modified. I would further suggest that you take your time looking through the pics thread in the saiga 12 section for ideas and read what others have done BEFORE you start buying parts. You can spend a little over $100 to convert your Siaga by shopping around, or you can spend $1000s for a full custom conversion professionally tuned and compensated for competition shooting. Nearly any AK stock will work, there are some very nice ones and some really crappy ones that people soon list on Ebay to get rid of. many different grips, trigger guards, fore ends, sights, rail systems, it can get a bit overwheling at first. But if you read up on these different parts on here and ask questions you will be very happy with your conversion.

For my conversion, I wanted to maintain the Russian profile. I ordered his AKS gas tube mod system, which used a modified gas tube and AK front sight base to mimic the AKS profile. Brian Smithwick is first class, and worth the wait. He and his wife do this on the side, as he has a full time job, hence the wait time.
