Woods501st 0
Hello, After reading the forums, you guys seems to be the authority on Saiga conversions. I was wondering if you could help me out. I elected to go with a non permanent conversion and have purchased the following parts: 1) Tapco intrafuse hand guard 2) tapco t6 stock with pistol grip 3) tapco gas piston 4) SGM tactical magazines 5) tapco g2 single hook trigger So far I have installed the hand guard, stock w/grip, and gas piston. It is my understanding that this rifle is in compliance with 922r as long as I only use the US made magazines, is that accurate? Now I would like to have my rifle compliant without the mags as well (to avoid any confusion) which is why I bought the g2 trigger. Which leads me to my second question -- will the g2 trigger work in this "unmodified" state? As I have not pushed the trigger guard forward to allow for the undermounted grip. I know this was a long post, but I would appreciate any help or guidance you can offer. Thanks so much,
vulcan16 971
The trigger counts as 3 US , the HG 1, Mag 3, buttstock 1 total 8 without the piston. 14 imported parts in stock configuration. You removed 8, leaves 6 foreign parts total. Ten or under is the magic number. Piston is PITA and not necessary to comply with 922r . Woods501st 0
Thanks for the reply Jetmech, but I haven't yet completed the trigger replacement as I have seen varying statements as to whether or not the g2 works without moving the trigger guard forward (as I have not and do not plan to).... And thats my real question. Can the g2 trigger work with the factory setup of the saiga 223? But if i read your response correctly, without the trigger replacement I would be at 9 foreign parts which would still put me in compliance, right? Sorry for the idiocy as I know this information is everywhere, but sometimes you just need to talk to someone who's done it before.
vulcan16 971
Mag 3, HG 1, Buttstock 1= 9 foreign parts remaining. Good to go' Screw the piston & T6 stock. Convert it correctly and dont waste your money on the T6. I have 5 or 6 T6 parts laying around from friends who decided to remove the T6, You can buy the trigger & Tapco Warsaw stock for the price of the T6. Pistol grip & screw for $20-25. CONVERT
dubya 198
^ I very much agree. Is there a specific reason you don't want to convert? If you do it right you could "restore" it to factory specs if needed/wanted. If you replaced the piston you should have no problem at all finishing the conversion as the piston is a pain most people avoid, myself included. If you really just don't want to convert, the best way to see if the G2 trigger works is to just try it. I'm not sure many people have done exactly what you're wanting to do so there may not be a great answer out there yet.
