breid1970 327
So, whats the huge difference between the Saiga 7.62 and this Vepr?
liberty -r- death 1,445
Biggest difference is the VEPR has the RPK reciever which is beefier than the standard AK. Thicker trunnion. So the VEPR weighs about a pound more than the Saiga of the same barrel length. Quality if the VEPR is slightly better in fit and finish than the Saiga. I own both in the 16" barrel and for me they about equal. I also have a VEPR with the 20" barrel. I actually prefer my 20" VEPR over both of my 16" rifles cause I prefer the longer barrel myself. Can't go wrong with either one. They shoot accurately for the AK platform and go bang every time.
thebuns1 4,323
Vepr rifles are a step above the Saiga. My 5.45 is noticeably more accurate than my SGL in the same caliber, with irons, but both are great shooters.
mostholycerebus 415
I have a Saiga m-series, which has the thicker receiver, 3-lug bolt, 22" thicker barrel, etc, same as Vepr. That said, wish I got a vepr when they were $500. The saiga is great, a smooth shooter, accurate, very well built and I would not hesitate to grab it if I needed a rifle in a life-saving emergency. But the Vepr is a nice rifle. Thats what I would bring to the range to show off, or keep in the glass case to show guests as we sip 30-year brandy and smoke cuban cigars. Honestly, the Vepr is TOO overbuilt for the x39 IMO. Just useless weight really. In x54r, probably worth it. Now to throw in the truck bed before driving down a few miles of dirt road, thats what the AMD65 is for. Edited April 14, 2013 by mostholycerebus
