Buying a hail damaged car. Is it really a good deal ?????

Recommended Posts

I need advise

My son needs a car bad

He is in Edmond OK. There are a bunch of hail damaged cars with low miles

they seem to be reduced in price approx. 3000-4000 from blue book.

Is there a reason not to get one of these other than they are ugly ?

Any ideas ?

thanks

Unlike a vehicle with water damage, the damage from hail is only superficial. If the plans are to run it to the ground then I think it's a great deal. Now, if it's going to be a vehicle that you later put up for resale you might want to think twice as it might be difficult to find a buyer.

Whatever you do, stay away from water damaged vehicles.

Hail damage is a major PITA to repair, a friend of mine who owns a body shop told me he hates to work on them. Most insurance companys will not pay to replace the body panels so the shop has to fill every spot with bondo. So it would be expensive to repair the damage, if you dont intend to repair it it will probably be O.K. though you could get some paint peeling in and around the spots.

Whatever one else already said... Hail damage is NOTHING that would offend me about a good honest daily driver if I got a good deal.

However, when the haggling starts, it would be the biggest problem that Earth has even known!!!!!

If your son doesn't like it, he can buy whatever he wants! :)

Looks like some rich guy pissed off a prostitute, and she danced on it in her high heels. haha.gif

I had a couple of hail damaged cars back in Bama(a Dodge Caravan and a Geo Metro). Wife called them "personality dents".

My ole' lady's Civic is very uniformly damaged. I ain't shittin' you. It's almost like someone symetrically ball peened the entire hood, roof and trunk every 3" on center. We had a nasty hail storm two years ago. One guy who was making a run for it had his hands over his head made the local paper. His hand was broken by a hail stone the size of a hardball. Tons of vehicles and houses were damaged. I was on the phone with a friend when it was happening and the metal roof I have on my home getting slammed by the hail was so loud inside that I couldn't hear myself yelling out loud.

My ex brother in law ball peened his 84 Camaro convertible in a insurance scam. Wrapped the hammer with a small towel and went to work on the hood and trunk. I ended up buying it from his son CHEAP a couple of years later biggrin.png

This is about the worst car that was there.

The one he got is not as bad and is white.

I'm waiting for a picture of it.

It's white.....like a golf ball.........that cracks me up Rob......

I fix hail damage for a living (PDR) I'm working in Indiana right now. By the looks of the damage on that roof, it can be fixed paintless if you decide to fix it one day. Also, he did good by going with white because it hides a lot. I have some buddies working in Oklahoma City if you decide to fix it but you might want to wait because It's still early in the season and there'll be many more storms to come, especially in Oklahoma.

Thanks for the info. I don't think he will fix it because he has no place to park it under cover.

And he's not getting another dime outta me..........

Hey them Golf ball dimples change the air flow over the car it May get better gallon/mileage than an un dimpled car !

I know a Big EU manufacturer was using dimpled under body panels for this reason on their high $$,$$$ cars .

Just a thought what.gif

Also because of the dents i would bet he never gets hit in an accident !! every vehicle i have ever owned had a dent and i am going on more than 16 years no tickets no accidents
