nukebabysitter 1
So the threads on my S12s gas block that hold the hand guard are stripped. I thought of replacing the whole block but it is proving difficult yo find one and i'd prefer not to. Any suggestions?? I though of just tapping the hole out bigger and finding a screw that would fit. Please help!!!! Thanks.........
cguiro 29
Chase the hole with a tap... blue lock tite..
nukebabysitter 1
What size tap would be best?
cguiro 29
If the original bolt was mpt damaged goto lowes and head to the hardware section. They have a board with different bolt types to match it upto. Get the tap that fits the screw. Odds are by chasing the threads with a tap u should be fine. Now if its totally stripped (no threads left or because u wanna new thread pitch) do the same thing as above but find a tap the next size up or 2. Slowly drill the hole to open it up and then slowly tap it.
Salt1219 176
if chasing doesn't work and you don't want to go up a size you can weld the hole closed and re-drill/tap (i've had to do it) Edited May 5, 2013 by Salt
gunfun 3,931
There are some old threads about this: Read this whole thread before you do Anything else http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/72386-crossthreaded-gas-plug/
nukebabysitter 1
That thread is about the gas plug threads...... My problem is with the threads for the bolt that secures the hand guard. If all else fails I'll just bring it to a gunsmith, which I am trying to avoid..... I took a real good look at the threads and they look like they are toast

I believe the threads are M5x1.0 RH I should have read more closely. FYI, that gas block metal will eat taps.
