I'm not stoked about it. It needs to be exposed for what it is. An area full of welfare cases who abuse the system, ignore laws and are returned to society. It shows that the police in that area are n

Nope, the thing you had to worry about after Katrina was the police.

Up to three shooters? Not your usual mass-shooting-by-a-crazy-ass by any means. It's gonna be hard to for the media to pin this on angry white people. As said above, I wouldn't be surprised if this

John aint wrong about NO, wouldnt live there on a large bet.

Its gangs, no doubt, you know the ones that took over when everyone was disarmed during Katrina? Yeah those.

Hate people get caught up in those things but hey it aint like its a secret whats going on.

They didn't take over after Katrina.

They ran like baby bitches just like most everyone else.

The one problem we did not have in those weeks after Katrina was gangs to deal with.

Nope, the thing you had to worry about after Katrina was the police.

We've put this to bed numerous times.

It was few and far between.

I agree ONE time was too many, but what you never see or hear about are the cops that were there who said "F*ck you" when instructed to seize weapons.

Just out of curiosity Bear, were you there? The reason I ask is that I haven't heard any real first hand info.

Sorry, but assuming that all governmental forces are the good guys and only one gun got confiscated once during Katrina is naive and stupid.

Even IF we assumed that, I'm sure you'd have no issue with all states having no gun confiscation by the government, ever, especially during

times of emergency, amendments just in case, right?

If you think they care about our rights anymore, you're dreaming. Sure there are plenty of good guys, but good guys need to protect their families first and foremost, and being unemployed wont help that. The guys up top are evil, and the grunts dont have the resources to do the right thing when everyone is being told to do wrong.

Sorry, too pissed to make make much sense right now.

Yes I was.

And there are even a few photos somewhere on here from back then.

You cannot believe the insanity going on, especially that first week.

NONE of that excuses the gun grabs.

We were partnered up with National Guard during the day when we went out searching for survivors.

None of my group, including those soldiers was willing to take anyone's guns away from them.

Now we were only one small group of hundreds of officers that were there, but I have spoken with other officers that were there and none of them seized weapons either.

I personally only witnessed two occasions where NOPD took guns away from people and I told them it was a shitty thing to do.

One was two guys in a canoe with pet carriers getting their animals from their flooded home.

They were certainly up to no good! (Insert sarcasm)

Also, I never saw any weapons brought in to the command post at Harrah's Casino.

Well said, Chevyman. The problem isnt that we dont recogize many did the right thing. The problem is failures of the authority to police themselves.

Yes Chevy.

I bitched to my supervisor, for all the good it did.

But there was no established chain of command at that time and my supervisor was told by NOPD that the order stands.

Yep, the NOPD are the problem. So I take it you arent NOPD you are from another department and were there helping?

Some of you fuckers have really weak minds.....

My mind is too weak to sit through a bookhaha.gif

Just outta curiousity... How does reading a book make one's mind weak. Most avid readers are really smart.

This is an example of too little too late. Katrina forced the NOPD daily practices to bubble to the surface so the world could witness. The book I recommended above, is just a simple record of a few of the shenanigans committed. I was born and raised in that banana republic, and ran to the State of Texas as fast as I could. You have to be "connected" in that city to avoid the pitfalls of the law.

I would love to read a book. I cant read 2 pages in an hour without doing anything but reading. Well anyway I got through 2 degrees not reading a damn thing and revisiting notes in daily study sessions. Thank god I didn't try to learn in highschool but still am old enough that I didn't get the classroom spin of now. Our old Alabama Hx books would not fly these day, ahemm.

Anyway Katrina is a ugly dark part of NOLA citizens civil rights. They were violated in the worst ways and why do we ever need anymore examples of "it already happened?"

If Katrina doesn't stop people from saying "that wont happen to us," or "our civil liberties will not be affected with these laws and institutions." Well I don't know what else needs to happen. I didn't need a Boston to remind me or suddenly understand...

Well, I find that most people are to blind to see the forest through the trees.
