breid1970 327
Does removing the tang to allow for ACE and Tromix style stocks make sense? Or are there reliable folders out there that don't involve cutting it off. The best choice I've seen so far was the MAKO stock with adjustable cheek riser. I watched a few reviews and it seems pretty solid and affordable at only 120ish on Amazon.
HighPlainsDrifter 466
How come you haven't looked at Bonesteel stocks? Reliable and bolts right on using the tang.
breid1970 327
I had no clue they made one. Thats awesome. i was just on they're website not long ago looking for something. I will have to check them out. Just ordered the Texas Weapons rail system and a nice folder along with a beefier hand rail set up will complete the package. Once i get it back from RCW of course. semper299 284
+1 for Bonesteel. Here is the link. http://www.bonesteelarms.com/Folding-Stocks_c10.htm ETA: Sorry just read your response that you had already been to their website. breid1970 327
Your good to go. I wonder which would be sturdier, the bonesteel or the mako. I am not as familiar with bonesteel. i misspoke, it was SGM tactical that i was looking at for the forward rail system. Also searching for a sight/peep site to go with the texas rail. Someone recommended the keltec su16 rear peep site.
semper299 284
The bonesteel is pretty solid, and you do not have to permanently alter the gun. I really like this stock.... I know its Red Jacket, and all that implies, but I like the way it looks and would love to do a build with it. But, have to cut the tang off for this one unless I want to put adaptors and stuff on it, which I would think would reduce its sturdiness. The bonesteel is made for the tang, and from what I have heard they are very sturdy. I don't know anything about the Mako, but I have also never had a problem with any of their products. HighPlainsDrifter 466
The RJF skeleton stock is essentially a Tromix copy. I have it installed on a build with the ace folding mechanism as well. I personally would go with the Tromix over the RJF just because you can add a kick ass cheek rest. Same folding mechanism would be used. Yes, you would have to cut the tang. semper299 284
Drifer, school me on something if you don't mind. On the Tromix folder, you... 1. Cut the tang 2. Install a stock adaptor 3. Install folding mech with stock Am I remembering that right? And I do like that stock, but never really thought about the ability to add a cheek rest. Thanks for the tip. dsmtsi23 18
Don't cut the tang. I just bought this adapter and its very well built. Extremely happy with it. I also ordered the fab defense gl-shock(OD green) buttstock. I don't recommend cutting the tang off. http://store.carolinashooterssupply.com/servlet/-strse-1152/M4-AK-Saiga-Stock/Detail

For fixed or folders, you have to cut the tang (unless there is an adaptor for that).

Instead of installing an internal stock adapter you can have a plate welded on. That's what custom shops typically do.
dsmtsi23 18
Heres a few options. Mako side folder. http://www.themakogroup.com/product_p/uas-akp.htm http://www.midwayusa.com/product/240518/arsenal-inc-side-folding-aks-74-style-busttstock-assmebly-ak-47-ak-74-stamped-receivers-steel-matte Romy side folder is a great option too. breid1970 327
I think I am going to go with the bonesteel. I believe it locks in place when folded. They are about the same price as the MAKO. Infact they looking a lot alike in some aspects. The mako does come with an adjustable cheeckriser. That is a plus as well. misterT 174
To cut the tang or not is a long standing debate that can get VERY heated, there are advantages to both. If you look you can find a LOT of threads on this discussing the pros and cons of both. Personally I would go for the Bonesteel folder, the ONLY drawback is that you have to order either a left or right side folder it cannot be switched like many of the ones that require cutting the tang. hdskumm 39
The bonesteel is very sturdy. The one I have does not lock in place when folded, but is held in place very tightly with spring tension so it can be quickly deployed with the flick of your wrist.

LuPiN8oR 333
I have the bonesteel folder w a magpul ctr stock. It locks up super tight, and if push came to shove i wouldnt hesitate to break someones face with it.
tchick 52
Another vote for not cutting the tang and using the Bonesteel folder. I bought a left folder and I'm very happy with it. It won't fold flat to the left if a scope mount is on the rail but if you go with a TWS rail or something similar on top it won't be an issue. I plan on going with a rail on top eventually. PS. Pay the extra and get the sling swivel added.
Sdustin 579
I cut my tang and I'm just happy with it. Right now DPH has that red jacket stock for 40 bucks! That's a huge savings.
im_n2_vws 28
+1 for bonesteel. I have 2,one on my 7.62 and one on my 12. Both left folders. And like bub said, they are very tough you could easly bust someones teeth out with it.
