Remek 771
I looked at the Ruger 1911 (5" barrel) this past Saturday. If you know me, you know I have been thinking to buy a 1911 for a while. I have to say, the Ruger is the best-looking 1911 I have ever seen, bar none. The reviews I have read are all great, too. I have no problem with the cast parts that are used, and I am very turned on by the all-made-in America part. Anyone shoot/own one? Thoughts? http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2011/05/robert-farago/gun-review-ruger-sr1911/ (pics and review). Edited May 19, 2013 by Remek
NM0 586
Have no complaints about mine. Only around 500rds WWB through it so far...no issues. Shoots better than me right out of the box.

Remek 771
Done! woohoo! One more gun with massively overpriced rounds! That said, this baby is just gorgeous. Cant wait to get it out to the range (tomorrow, god willing)!
NM0 586
You get to run her yet?
Remek 771
Yes! It runs fantastic! The springs in the mags are a little stiff, but currently have them sitting loaded for a week. Its as easy to fire accurately as my 92fs, and a bit more comfortable too. I am very happy I purchased it. I couldn't ask for more at this point.
patriot 7,197
Hats off to John Moses Browning for setting the world standard in so many firearms designs. Truly a magnificent firearms engineer. Kudos to Ruger for their execution of JMB's design.

Remek 771
Thanks, NM0. Looking forward to some more range time this week. Have to get the feel of its rythm and finish breaking it in.
Remek 771
Need advice from experience 1911 people. I "loosened" the springs in my mags by loading them up for a week. They work like a champ on target (ball) rounds. But, I stick HP in them (gold dot), and the first round has difficulty chambering. Only the first round in a full mag. If I rack it really fast, it seems fine. If I rack it somewhat slow, it does a nosedive and jams on the feed ramp. Should I continue to loosening my springs for a while? Or is this pretty normal for a wide mouth HP, like gold dot? I dont have a small mouth, like PMC Starfires, so I cannot test it at this time. Edit: fixed typo Edited May 30, 2013 by Remek
magsite20 1,664
might try polishing the feed ramp and you shouldn't ride the slide when racking it, let the recoil spring do it's job. some of this is maybe just from a stiff new gun thing and will work it self out with some use. that said not all followers are equal and feeding HP you may need a different one than what came with it. I like the shooting star ones in my comp gun
Remek 771
^^^ Now that you say that, I am like DOH! Definitely going to polish the feed ramp tonight. Also, going to look into the follower tonight.
Lone Eagle 839
I had the same problem with my Daly and JHP ammo. Polished the ramp, polished the chamber, and bought 2 Kimber 8 round mags. After that, she was a happy camper. Those followers are also in Mec-Gar mags if you are on a budget. I have the 2 that came with my Daly, and they function flawless as well. I save the USGI mags for range/ball loadout.
Remek 771
Got out a little bit ago. Its not the feed ramp, its the lip of the mag. Going to look into it more and see if theres one with less lip.
JonnyDingDongs 158
I had the same issues with HP's in my Springfield. Winchester PDX-1's would not chamber reliably. I switched over to Federal Hydroshocks since they have a little tighter HP to them. Those worked fine for awhile, but then I discovered CMC mags and Hornady Critical Defense. Zero issues since. The Rugers look like they're pretty good quality. Good find! Definitely invest in some new mags for HP's. I still have all of my old mags but they have become "range only." MT Predator 2,294
I "loosen" all my mag springs by keeping them loaded as you can have all the ammo and (empty) mags in the world but they won't do shit by keeping them separated if you really need loaded ones. Metallurgy has come a long way and you are not going to hurt magazine springs or wear them out by keeping them loaded. You are not going to loosen them keeping them loaded either. In my experience with my 1911s, it's probably a feed ramp issue with HP ammo. The original 1911 specs were for running hard ball rounds. Congrats on the purchase, happy shooting!
