How do you conceal 1911, 5"???

Recommended Posts

If you read my other thread, you know I purchased a 5" 1911.

I am thinking to try it as a concealed carry. Its big, but its thin, so I think it has a chance of being pretty good.

Do you carry a full size 1911 concealed? How do you carry it? Holster recommendations?

Congrats on your purchase. You will enjoy it. Minimal recoil and very easy to point shoot at close range.

I have been carrying mine around the property and to some outings. The safety is still a new feature on a carry gun for me. Will take time to get used to it.

Mine rides OWB comfortably in a Simply Rugged Cuda at 2:30-3:00. Did try it back further (4:00 etc) and didn't like it.

It is surprising how well it can conceal with a t shirt and it disappears with an un-tucked button down shirt.

Let us know how she runs.

Cross draw or strong side? If strong side then check out raven concealment. It's what I use every day to carry a glock 22 Very comfortable for me and hides under a shirt. They also make one where you can tuck your shirt in and still conceal your gun.

I am linking that Cuda! Will look into them. I am thinking I want OWB, as its a summer outfit, and my pants might be just a bit more comfortable in the heat. If I could get away with an untucked T I'd be set.

I have always gone strong side, but now that you say this, I am beginning to wonder if I should reconsider. I have heard raven is great. Also, if I could actually tuck and still conceal, that'd be very cool. Thanks for the tip!

Milt Sparks "Versa Max 2" Inside the Waistband is the standard by which all other holsters are judged. A less expensive option would be the Falco Holster that looks similiar: it is a quality holster.

I use a Minotaur MTAC for my 92FS, and do love the IWB in winter. I am wondering in the summer if it would feel as good.

Tactipac FusionPac IWB.

I am not sure I have seen them before. Thanks, I will be looking the up.

I CC a full sized XD9 4" Service model, do it with either a Crossbreed Super Tuck or plain'ol Uncle Mikes IWB, strong side, with just a tshirt and it disappears pretty good.

But then again, I don't really give a rat's ass if anyone sees it, I OC in a Serpa more than I CC.

For a full-size 1911, my two favorites are a pancake holster (as above) or a shoulder holster.

My sister carried SOB with either a sportcoat or vest on, but I never cared for that myself. Personal preference, but also if you should happen to get pushed down or take a fall, that hunk of steel goes right into your spine. Something to consider...

Sis was 5-foot-nothin and carried an Officer's Model C&L. ;)

Galco miami classic shoulder rig or (don't give me shit for it) Blackhawk SERPA... im a small guy but a light jacket or a bigger t-shirt covers it good enough for me and it's alot more comfortable than most IWB holsters I've tried

If you are going to carry it, do you not want to have the most efficient position to draw it quickly and acquire a target? I see lots of inefficient suggestions. Strong side carry is the best. I use Crossbreeds for most of my handguns including 1911s but admittedly, I usually strap a Glock on so I don't have to worry about an external safety in a situation where speed is of the essence.

If you train with it, your thumb safety will not be an issue. Empty your 1911, check chamber, and practice flicking the thumb safety on and off while aiming and holstering. After you do this till you think you're gonna go mad, should be automatic. Your subconcious mind will take care of the rest.

I still have yet to think of a time during live fire at the range that I didn't flick the thumb safety off. And at the range I shoot drawing from the holster plus reloads, gotta stay on top of it.

But sometimes I also carry my Glock 21 SF. 1911 is my primary though.

kind of looking at this myself right now my selection of hand guns for carry is down to a 1911 really. Sister got my Colt Cobra, son got the Colt Pocket Pony, and daughter in law the Glock 19. That leaves me a Ruger Redhawk (I've got a shoulder holster for this one, but I's have to wear a tent to hide it), Glock 24 with a red-dot, a couple of 357 single actions, and a 1911. I've got a holster I picked up for 3 gun and added a dropped offset adapter (shown) to that, without the adapter it rides high and tight so I'll look at it 1st. Forgot who made this thing but when I get home I'll look. I know there is a different belt attachment that makes it IDPA approved so they figure it's a good concealment holster but I'll wait and see.

Got home and looked it's a "Hellweg" Swat holster.

This one works well for me IWB in the small of the back. Can also be worn clipped OWB or on a belt and it's ambi.
