I want to thank all of my fellow bro's here who have served, and those currently doing time. But more importantly I want to give a special thanks to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. May you

I am thinking sam is silly sally getting back at us in frustration.

There was someone on the radio this morning talking the same shit. I'm truly convinced liberalism is a mental illness, they should not be allowed to have firearms.super_man.gif

Disrespectful therefore inappropriate content in this thread had been removed. My dad was a WWII vet and was awarded the Navy Cross.

Thanks tritium.

My Dad was a WWII vet, served in the 289th Combat Engineer Battalion in the ETO 1944-1945. Besides my very life i owe that man more than I could repay in two lifetimes. I miss you Dad. God bless all those who served or who's loved ones served....

Here is to my late Father who was a Iwo Jima vet and a retired E-9 Petty Officer. He taught me to be a Man and cried for me when I left for the service.I miss you Dad! I wish I could talk to you, just to hear you voice.

God Bless the Master Chief and ALL who gave everything they had to give. I don't even want to get started on those who would dishonor and defame their memory. All I can say is that I pray there a very special place in HELL for your sorry, unappreciative asses.

I posted this on another board almost 13 years ago and it perfectly expresses my sentiments.

To all my brothers who are vets, have a good one and stay safe, I love you all.

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev'ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job--
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

I miss my brothers every day who served and never came home. My son is now a Marine and has also felt the loss of his brothers. I thank God for All who served before me, with me and who are now serving after me. I will never forget what they did, what I had to do, and what I pray my son never has to do. God Bless you my Brothers and Sisters. God Bless You.

Thank you to all of you on this forum who have served to protect me, my family, and our way of life. I am thankful that all of you are here to share your experiences and to keep the flame of true freedom burning. I will never, nor will my children, forget the ultimate sacrifices that many have made with their lives for us. The words, honor and sacrifice, do not do full justice to those that have served, are serving, and have laid down their lives for this country. Thank you!

In my line no man has ever fallen in battle though not for lack of opportunity.

From the militias of South Carolina and Georgia, the Creek wars with Jackson, the First and Fifteenth Alabama, the Rainbow Division, and finally Korea they all survived or else I and my children would not exist.

For all those futures that were sacrificed for ours, we are grateful and pay homage.

Tomorrow, I will honor my Grandpa. Lester was a huge Norge American who had long arms and towered over people. A natural for signaling on a navy ship. His ship was hit by a suicidal slant with a bird full of gas. It hit about 20 yards down from my grandpa and a few were killed instantly. The ship was hit hard and was going down and people were all dazed and confused. The ship sank and most everybody got away from her. The water was now on fire and some of the injured men could not swim. My grandpa took several trips swimming under a sea of fire to save the wounded who were more directly in front of him when they were hit. At one point, he had to hold someone down with his legs while swattin the water above to put out a small area to pop up and get more air. This kinda worked and it kinda didn't, he had burns on his arms, chest and neck decades later. He didn't say much about war, he only had good things to say after that day.

RIP Lester

Does it feel too artificial? Maybe: Thanks to all who have given all, may we all properly remember them!

When I was kid we had a parade every year that ended at the old cemetery atop the hill. After the usual ceremony with the V.F.W., which included a 21-gun salute and taps, we would help decorate the graves of fallen soldiers. I didn't find anything "happy" about it then either, in fact my eyes are filled with tears right now. I guess maybe it does feel artificial to say Happy Memorial Day. My dad and uncles are all buried in Morehead KY, I'm hopeful that the V.F.W. still decorate their graves. I will go to one of the large cemeteries here and visit the grave of an old Navy Chief I met 20 years ago.

I guess the happiness you and I wish is the hope that the peace we have will no longer need the blood of brave people.

We need to be happy because of what has been given to us by them. They would want that. They also would never want to be forgotten. Something I cannot and will not ever do. We also need to remember the ones who have come home alive but not whole. They have given much and live with it every day. This is a hard day for me.

As a 17 year old Gunner's Mate in the USN my father "survived" having a Liberty Ship shot out from under him but this fact is all we ever knew about it, he never spoke of it to his family.

But as I child I do remember hearing the result of him awaking in the night screaming....I can only imagine the content of his nightmares. So while he did survive physically to come home he gave almost everything else to his country, to you and to me. He only found solace in the waking world in the bottom of a bottle.

This day is for those who gave everything they could possibly give, we owe them a debt that can never be repaid.

Dad was on the APA191 shore communications. He never talked about the war with us. I had to hear him on a recorded interview that he gave to the local historical society. He did destroyers and destroyer escorts in the late 50s early 60s and after that sub tenders and then recruiting.

We lost 1 young airman during Desert Storm, running heavy equipment at night, sadly today I don't remember his name. As with all accidents it was a series of stupid tragic mistakes. After we got back I lost one of my best friends Harry B. he was drunk and driving around after his wife had left him. Yes it was a single car DUI wreck but to me his death had as much a causality with Desert Storm as the young airman. Both were lost in the dark and alone.

By and large my 20 years were pretty much a quite time of service during my deployments I was in the rear with the gear. I should send out a shout to my stepfather he was a Bad Ass Army Aviator helicopter pilot who did 3 tours of Vietnam. On the ground a quite easy going guy but after the skids left the ground a warrior who made Rambo seem like a candyass. Died way too young of cancer. CW4 Richard "Dick" Redstone hope he has all the flight time, Coors, and Marlboros he wants.

Thanks to all who have and continue to serve, support and defend our ways. Bless the famalies of those who have made great sacrifices on our behalf.

Thanks Dysfunctional, for reminding me of this song and video, and for the tears that it caused to flow in remembrance of fallen friends and family members. My wife had never seen this video and when I put it up on our bigscreen it was awe inspiring! Tears shed for those fallen and glasses will be raised in their memories tonight.

Thanks to those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for the rest of us! Thanks to those who continue to serve..I hope that you ALL make it back home ALIVE.

Honor The Fallen

Squishy, Friend, I hate what your father went through and whats so sad is that it was so common for so many that came back from war. My brother in laws father, God rest his soul, fought in WW2, and made it back..physically at least. He woke the family many nights screaming and fighting, breaking his mothers nose on one occasion, thinking she was a German soldier. He ended up deep in a bottle also. But thsy didn't get help coming back, help that they sorely needed, to re-enter society. They were men, and men didn't cry, or talk about such. They were expected to come home, pick up where they left off like nothing happened, and that just don't work.

God bless the falilies that had to live with the horrors of war and what it did to their family members!

Been away from the PC all day enjoying fellowship and the smell of burnt powder, while remembering those who died for my rights to do WTF I want like that. Can't say I'm sorry I miised all that drama with the fucktarded troll. Love your brothers and sisters and RESPECT those who paved the road you travel on people. It's what I try to do anyway. Won't wish anyone here a "happy memorial day" but will say I hope you enjoyed yours in your own way. Going all the way back through all the wars we've lost fathers, brothers, mothers, sisters, sons, daughters, cousins, grandparents, friends, uncles, aunts, everyone.... and we are still able to at least partially taste freedom because of THEM. I say THANK YOU.

Standing at attention, after doing 21 gun salute, member of VFW honor guard. Thinking memorial day "Really Sucks", hate it, hate it. Maybe it's the thought of guys passed, 9 men of my platoon who died in Central America, feeling a bit sorry for myself because old injuries/wounds are really bitting me in the a$$, or just being pissed I lost my 1st born 4 years ago Feb. in Iraq after he extended his tour. For being a little town, we sure have too many flags of honor to put up and take down. After they were all folded and put in honor case at hall. We all have a shot in salute. It just "Sucks"

Drink to remember, smoke to forget. Remember the good times you had with your friends and how short this life is. Take care man.
