The Kinect bugs me. I don't have one for my 360 and don't intend to ever buy one. Kinect combined with the always on thing concerns me. It's a little too reminiscent of 1984. I don't even like having a laptop with a built in camera and mic because it's possible for someone to access your system and turn them on without you knowing. I know there is a light that's supposed to tell you the camera is on, but if you know what you're doing it's a pretty easy thing to activate the camera and not the light.

Funny thing is the system will recognize and log that you are naked and adjust advertising based on that.

One can only imagine the ads.

Well... info keep coming out confirming just about everything that was dreaded about this abomination.

http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Xbox-One-DRM-About-as-Bad-As-Leaks-Suggested-124548

Microsoft has released more details on the DRM embedded in the Xbox One to stop piracy, and the reality is almost-but-not-quite as bad as most of the worrisome leaks predicted. According to Microsoft, the new Xbox One is a revolution in cloud computing, TV watching and gaming, but the changes will all come at a very steep price tag for consumers (in more than just the literal sense).

thumb200.jpg Taking information straight from Microsoft's website, a Redditor last night created this graphic that highlights all the things users can't do on the new Xbox One, that they used to be able to do on the Xbox 360.

Users cannot play games at all (including offline titles) unless the console is able to connect to the Internet once every twenty-four hours, something that's not great news for those of you whose ISPs enjoy multi-day outages. That happens more than most think, particularly in more rural areas.

Remember how Microsoft fired that employee who mocked people concerned about that? Yeah, good times.

The console requires a broadband connection once every hour if you're accessing your games from a different console. Forget taking your console to the cabin to play for the weekend if you don't have broadband. Microsoft tries to argue that you can connect the console to your wireless broadband connection -- which will be great fun for those of us with 5 GB caps paying $15 per gigabyte.

One of the most troubling aspects of the new details is that Microsoft says that game rentals will not be supported at launch. Microsoft insists this could change in time, but that's a serious slap in the face to users who use services like GameFly or RedBox to rent titles instead of having to shell out $60 for what all too often winds up being derivative and low-quality titles.

The used game and game sharing and sales aspect of the console is getting clearer, but remains murky. You can't lend games, though Microsoft says users can sell their games to a friend -- but only if you've been friends for thirty days. The game is then locked to that user forever, and that user can never sell it to another person. You can sell games, but only to participating retailers -- and only if a publisher has signed off on it.

Needless to say, all of this news isn't being received particularly well by gamers or the gaming press, and it appears that Microsoft has been engaged in damage control ahead of next week's E3, cancelling some press round tables and some one on one interviews with company executives where, one surmises, somebody might actually ask pointed questions about the plethora of stupid ideas on display here.

While there's no doubt that the console will sell, or that some innovative ideas are at play here (like playing your titles from any other console), there's really no doubt that the new console strips a way a ton of consumer rights both to deter piracy and provide Microsoft with greater control over the used-games market. At least some of these ideas will need to be scaled back (especially the game rental blockade), or Microsoft's lead in the console gaming space will be ceded to Sony who (for now) appears to be taking a much softer approach on DRM.

Seriously, not one thing about the Xbox One is a serious issue to me... The lack of backwards compatibility is aggravating, but that just means I'll have to keep my 360 around for another year or so.

But used games? Seriously? Who gives a shit if you won't be able to get 3 year old junk titles for $15 off eBay.

Microsoft insists this could change in time, but that's a serious slap in the face to users who use services like GameFly or RedBox to rent titles instead of having to shell out $60 for what all too often winds up being derivative and low-quality titles.

Yet folks blame Microsoft instead of the shitty game developers and publishers? Spend 5 minutes to check the IGN rating for a game before you buy it (I almost only buy games with a 8 or higher rating) then you won't have that problem.

If anything this will make consumers more savvy and force publishers to produce quality titles instead of whatever crap they can just to fill up the used game shelves at GameStop.

Microsoft pissed me off with their plans to squeeze out maximum profit by making it impossible, or at least a pain, to borrow or share games with friends, and their hope to kill the market for used games. Sony doesn't seem to be participating in such douchebaggery.

I'll probably cave and buy an Xbox one when the new Halo comes out though.

"

Now with Xbox-One they are pushing their other faggot-filled "Cloud" shit that none asked for. Not to mention they basically killed the 2nd hand games market...good luck buying those used games for $10-$15 ... now they want to double dip and charge you for a "license" to (re)-use it.

"

+1 . Not sure what the value proposition for the new Xbox is

gaming machine ? no , any decent PC built is already much better than this hardware and will only improve rather than stagnate as consoles are. Between Steam and other services like GoG there is more to play than there is time available

media center? no , nothing I can not get with XBMC already (actually XBMC is better), a $35 RPi + free OpenElec are nicer, cheaper to run, much more modular, do not require any subscriptions, and only continue to improve .

monthly fee free DVR? not sure if gives anything I can not get with HD homerun Prime + DLNA compatible device (or XBMC + Myth installation)

communication hub? may be, but I can already Skype/Hangout at every other device in the house including phones and tablets.

what is the killer application here?

also, very slimy business practices, desire to triple dip and dime me for everything (for console, for ads I am forced to see , for games that I can not give away or buy used, for the Live service, for every app/game sold on it). Horrible deal....I do not want to even start on the always on device with high def video camera connected to the internet from our government friendly provider who believes they own you.

That was one of my favorite parts about BF3, to me they do "feel" pretty close to the real thing, at least the ones that I've shot for real did.

Ps4 will win easily. Hardcore console gamers like to be able tobuy used and this is going to kill that. And if you will deal with all this stupid shit just halo you need help.

I may just stick to ps3 the graphics are not going to be that much better on the next gem for at least a couple years.

Sweet!

And Playstation has free online play :D

Not for 4 you will have to have ps+ for online play this time. Which is $50 a year I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong lol Edited by Ethan M
