dinzag 31
What does it take to do something like this??? I've seen lot's of cool stuff since I've been crawling around on here. Other than posting stickys at the top, a tech page layed out like the general form would be cool - sections for each of the weapons. Maybe members can cast votes to add a thread as a sticky or move it to the tech section. If the original thread is left in the regular forum, people can add comments. Then when it hits tech status, make a copy of the original post and any further information the author wants then sticky it. There's a couple nice painting tutorials, bullet guide tutorials, gas port mods, barrel threading, mag mods and some really kick-ass builds that should be stickied. Cobra 76 two 2,677
We talked about this a little not long ago. I believe Bvamp voted it down and said we already have a FAQ section. Well he has a point, that is what that section is for. It started out as a section to let people know exactly what they were and were not allowed to do with their Saigas back when the stupid AWB was still in effect. It evolved to include concise instructions on how to legally modify Saigas to PG configuration so all the answers would be right there and we wouldn't have to answer the same questions over and over and over... Still we end up doing just that because people tend to skip right over that section and go for the easy quick answers. I think we need to reconfigure the FAQ section and either give it a different name like "Reference" or Saiga Modifications and Tech info" or just "Technical Reference" section. Whatever we call it there needs to be a subtitle like "Find Answers Here" or "Read First, Ask Questions Later". I just think people tend to fly right past anything that says FAQ just because it is such a widely used phrase in computers. That said, there are a lot of very helpful posts and even whole detailed tutorials on the site that get buried and it would be a great idea to hunt them all down, edit them some and post them in one easy to find section. Actually I would prefer they be left like they are with comments and follow up posts intact because some of that info is useful too. We just need to copy and paste the tutorials or posts by the authors themselves in their own section with a link to the original post for followups and commentary. Like dinzag said. NOT TRYING TO WRITE A NOVEL HERE but I think this is important so a couple more things. It's easy to talk about this idea but a lot of work to make it happen. As mods we have the ability to do whaetever we want with past or present posts but the hard part is the time it takes to track down all this helpful info to put into one section. If everyone would help by posting links in this thread to information that they found helpful at one time or another and especially tutorials that someone spent their own valuable time to put together so all of you could go to it and be able to take on a project with step by step instructions then we could go through those and put together a new section. I know when I first came here I read back through a million posts, it seemed, to weed out info on just what I wanted for my little .410. I didn't even read any of the other forums for quite awhile. It would be very cool if a person could simply go to a section like "Mag Modifications" or "Paints and Finishes" and find most of the useful info on what has been done already without having to search all day. PLEASE HELP! Here are some ideas already mentioned and some more I'm thinking of in no particular order. painting and finishing bullet guides gas system mods jamming or cycling problems and fixes barrel cutting and threading mag mods custom furniture mods Saiga ID and markings info FCG work sights, mounts, and optics mag clamps or cinches (this could be part of mag mods I guess) muzzle attachments misc. accessories LEGAL Q&A ammo known gunsmiths (with contact info) impressive builds and innovations ALSO parts suppliers links to useful info (pertaining to Saigas or AKs) on other websites Umm... any more ideas? I realize this would use more bandwidth or whatever to have the same info posted in different sections but probably not all that much. Some of it could just be links. If Max would agree to this I think it would be helpful to all.

Cobra 76 two 2,677
YEAH RIGHT! lol You can tell he practiced a few times with that same one before filming that. I've always had to put the gas tube in a vice and then CAREFULLY remove it and try not to split it. The lamninated ones are easy but the hardwood will split in a skinny minute, especially when trying to install one without lube. Ask me how I know this... no don't. Dullbert 0
Why is some random conversion about making a tech section labeled like its the real deal?
Cobra 76 two 2,677
Why is some random conversion about making a tech section labeled like its the real deal? Maybe because if ya look at the date we started this "random conversation", there WAS NO tech section here and it was our idea to get one started?? Ya think?? Yes I know, answering an old post here for a free bump, to a post that should be at the top anyway. Lots of answers here to questions asked all the time....
