LuPiN8oR 333
Hey guys, just wondering if you could make gas checks outta beer caps, as that is a resource around here that is begging to be used lol. This is assuming you had a die for them, would the metal hold up ?
Sdustin 578
You very well could but they are a little thick. I have seen dies to use alu cans. My uncle that's a machinist was working on making a die for his friend. The die he was semi reverse engineering was a two step where you cut the gas check out then turn it around and crimp it. Well my uncle made a new die that would punch out the circle from a can and crimp it in one step. I'll talk to him to see if he has the file and could make another one if you would like. It would probably charge a pretty penny as he helps out his friends and does barter for most of his personal dealings.
magsite20 1,664
in my very limited knowledge of punch and die and gas checks I would have to believe the way to go wouldn't be a twist off beer cap. for one thing I'd think the cap would be too hard (steel) to make a good gas check compared to the copper used normally. might be a little rough on the barrel. gunfun 3,931
People use aluminum cans, or aluminum flashing material for when thicker material is desired. the 4th is right. Stteel would be bad, and handling little caps would be a hassle. If you are serious about this, http://patmarlins.com/Checkmaker%AA_Gas_Check_Form.html

gunfun 3,931
Also search for plain base checks. AKA "PB checks." -These are thin aluminum checks made to fit on bullets without the shoulder for a standard gas check.
