geneticgamer 0
I know it should run all mags, but what mags are the best quality and/or most reliable? What are the cheapest reliable mags? Where do you find replacement springs? Better to install a bullet guide or use the SGM mags?
Mullet Man 2,114
Surplus magazines and a bullet guide.
mostholycerebus 415
Combloc surplus steel mags are the most durable and GTG. Korean mags are kinda shady. If you need 922r parts, US Palm mags are GTG. Tapco mags are super cheap, you can get the 'galil' style for $5 or less each on sale, slab-side version for $15 or less. In my (short) experience, the only mags that lock easily and reliably under stress while not looking, are combloc steel mags. Because of that, I keep a lightweight Tapco mag in the rifle for slight weight reduction and handling, and a couple of 30 round combloc steel mags in a pouch. If you need 922r, Tapco slab-sides are pretty good.
thebuns1 4,323
I run Russian or Bulgarian mags with a bullet guide. Steel mags will likely be the toughest, but avoid Korean ones. If you look around, SGM make 7.62 Vepr mags for use with out a guide.
geneticgamer 0
Thanks for the advice again guys. You are a great resource! Unfortunately I've yet to see any VEPR 7.62x39's available. I want a straight back version along with a 5.45, but don't know why they've never been imported. Does anyone have a clue if they will import anymore and when? I'm afraid Obama will ban the importation of "assault rifles" with the so called arms treaty. Would love to own a few more VEPR's to enjoy.
Mullet Man 2,114
Centerfire systems has some Vepr's in stock.
geneticgamer 0
Yes sir, but nothing in 7.62x39. I do see a Pioneer model elsewhere, but wonder what's a good price for that model? I'd suggest not buying Centerfires current VEPR's either. I bought one of the 16.5" .308's and it's rough to say the least. The paint has chunks in it, both wood pieces were busted and horribly unfinished, serious tool marks, and even poorly cut pieces. For example the front sight post are grossly uneven. One side is cut into. Even internally there are rushed cut pieces. I haven't shot it yet, but I just hope performance is excellent. Haven't been able to log onto Wolf's website for over a month to register the warranty either. Edited June 24, 2013 by geneticgamer
dsmtsi23 18
I would install a Bullet Guide and use Combloc surplus steel mags. Aim still has them in stock and there prices are hard to beat for true russian military mags. Mine just showed up last week and were all unissued new magazines in great condition. Good Luck http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=MAK47R30&name=Russian+30rd+Steel+AK47+7.62x39+Magazine&groupid=15 http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=MAK47I30
geneticgamer 0
I bought 10 Tapco mags for compliance parts. I'd love to own those steel mags too. The brown mags look great with wood stocks. Need the rifle before buying more mags. Off topic again, but do .308 VEPR's need bullet guides or are they similar to the Saiga's where it's not needed?
