flyer 0
I have a square back Vepr .308 with the standard RPK sights. I removed the muzzle cap and it has the standard AK style front with threads and plunger intact. What flash hiders and breaks are safe for use with this Vepr. I contacted CNC Warrior about using some of their AK muzzle devices and they would only recommend their PKM short flash hider and their razorback break. I was hoping to use one of the ones that I already have from them (Type 84 and AIMR) but they were not sure if these would be strong enough for the .308. I am currently leaning toward their PKM short, but would like to know what everyone else with one of these Veprs is using. I want something that works well (flash or break), but does not effect accuracy or increase the sound the rifle makes. The ultimate choice for me would be something that works well as a break and a flash hider, but does not increase the sound when fired. Thanks in advance for all replies. JESS1344 508
FLYER, I'VE USED BOTH THE SOLAR TACTICAL F.A.S.T. BRAKE AND PRIMARY WEAPONS FSC-47 ON A 'X54R VEPR. I CHECKED WITH BOTH AND THEY'RE BOTH GOOD TO GO WITH THE 'X54R CTG. THE F.A.S.T. BRAKE SEEMS TO GIVE A BARELY DETECTABLE AMOUNT OF INCREASED RECOIL RELIEF, BUT I'M NOT PARTICULARLY RECOIL SENSITIVE. THE FSC-47 PROVIDES VIRTUALLY THE SAME RECOIL RELIEF, PLUS, DUE TO THE DESIGN, PROVIDES BETTER FLASH SUPRESSION. ON MY GUN, THE FSC-47 PROVIDES SLIGHTLY BETTER ACCURACY; YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY......... I ALSO DID TRY THE PKM SHORT, AND WHILE IT DID DO A SURPRISINGLY GOOD JOB OF ELIMINATING FLASH, GIVEN IT'S DIMINUTIVE SIZE, IT PROVIDED NO BRAKE EFFECT AT ALL. THE FSC-47 IS A BIT LOUD, BUT ANY BRAKE THAT IS EFFECTIVE, WILL BE. AND IT'S BRAKE, NOT BREAK. JESS1344
flyer 0
Thanks for the reply, and correction on Brake. I have the PWS FSC on my 6.8 AR and it is a great brake, but loud with a wicked side blast and will catch on things when hunting. I wonder if brakes like the Battlecomp would perform as good and be better for hunting use? Did the PKM short have any effect on accuracy?
JESS1344 508
FLYER, NO EXPERIENCE WITH THE BATTLECOMP. THE PKM SHORT DIDN'T SEEM TO HAVE ANY ADVERSE EFFECT ON ACCURACY. ROBERTRTG.COM HAD THE REAL PKM SHORT A FEW DAYS AGO. THE F.A.S.T. BREAK IS ONLY ABOUT $65; I'M THINKING THE BATTLECOMP IS A FAIR BIT MORE. JESS1344 P.S. JUST CHECKED THE PKM SHORT IS STILL THERE $49.95 Edited August 5, 2013 by JESS1344
flyer 0
Any idea what the thread pitch is on the PKM short and long flash hiders from RTG? CNC Warrior has their version for $19.99 and another person said he was using their Russian Original Flash Hider $22.99 (pic below). Image from the CNC Warrior site. JESS1344 508
FLYER, AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE ORIGINAL PKM LONG AND SHORT ARE 14X1LH, BUT A QUICK CALL TO RTG WOULD MAKE SURE. THE PKM SHORT I HAVE IS WARRIORS, AS RTG WAS OUT OF THE ORIGINALS AT THAT POINT IN TIME. IS THE RUSSIAN PIECE ABOVE CERTIFIED FOR .308 PRESSURES? IF YOU GET IT, MAKE SURE YOU CLICK ON THE CORRECT THREAD, AS IT'S AVAILABLE IN MORE THAN ONE. JESS1344 Edited August 6, 2013 by JESS1344
flyer 0
CNC Warrior did not mention it as one for the .308 when I called, but a user on another forum said that was what he was using. I have posted similar questions on several forums and several people keep saying that the pressure from a .308 is a non issue. I do not want to take any chances on messing up my rifle. I called Battlecomp and they said that their AK comp would work on a .308. I wonder how many even know or have tried their products on a Vepr .308. I know that I do not want to be the guinea pig for someones product.
leadslinger 37
I had the chance to shoot a Remington 700 bolt with the PWS Precision Rifle Compensator. It made that gun feel like my rossi m92 357 with 20 inch barrel. I mean this thing worked with reduced felt recoil. very impressive. I sent a email to PWS to see if they will offer it in 14x 1 LH. I know the Vepr is already a soft shooting .308 but this would turn it into a true pussy cat to shoot and think about picking up speed with follow shots. Sweet!!! flyer 0
It's already offered as the FSC47 for the AK and is what JESS1344 is using.
JESS1344 508
FLYER, IMHO, THE FSC-47 REDUCES THE RECOIL OF THE 'X54R VEPR TO THE LEVEL OF A 'X39 AK. JESS1344
leadslinger 37
hmmm never tried that one. I know the J-tac work for recoil reduction on an old AMD-65 build but was loud as heck.
