PHOENIX – Two Phoenix police officers were injured after being struck by birdshot pellets while attempting to make an arrest Tuesday night.

This all started in Mesa, where police were searching for two suspects in connection with the shooting of a woman at about 7 p.m. near the canal in the area of Center Street and Brown Road.

Police officers located a possible suspect vehicle in an apartment complex parking lot near Indian School Road and 67th Avenue in Phoenix, but the suspects fled in their vehicle.

Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said officers attempted a stop, which resulted in a pursuit. The suspects bailed out in near Central and Southern avenues at about 11 p.m.

The driver of the suspect vehicle, Emmanuel L. Castillo, 25, was taken into custody without incident.

The passenger, Nazario B. Castillo, 27, ran into the neighborhood. According to investigators, he hid under a truck parked in a carport and fired one shot from a sawed-off shotgun that he had concealed underneath him. Two officers were struck in the legs by birdshot pellets.

One of the officers returned fire, using rubber bullets. Nazario Castillo was injured and transported to a local hospital.

Both officers were transported to a local hospital. One officer was treated and released. The second was admitted for observation.

===================

So if you had to guess, would you say:

A - The perp paid a few hundred dollars to an estate lawyer to set up a trust, filled out a form 1, wrote a check for $200, and then waited 8-9 months to get his stamp before having a qualified gunsmith shorten the barrel.

B - He just cut it off with a hacksaw.

Well it says "sawed off" so....But to me the bigger question is WTF is up with the birdshot vs rubber bullets? You can chalk the birdshot up to "stupid criminal", but it sounds like an officer grabbed the wrong gun.

No shit. That is an aurthorized "Use of Deadly Force" scenerio for LEO to put the smackdown on the shithead. 00 should have been chambered. That Department must not have Tasers as I don't know any agencies that load rubber rounds for LTL use although they may carry some boxed for riot type situations.

here we see a CCTV of Emmanuel and Nazario as they eluded police, there was a third sleestak, who is yet to be identified, and is still on the loose. police are asking the public if you see this sleestak, do not try to apprehend it yourself, but contact your local law enforcement.
