How bad did I just screw up?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a used Saiga .223. I removed the FSB to install a Bulgy AK74 FSB and gas block. Once I removed the FSB, I checked the fit of the Bulgy FSB. It won't fit. Apparently I have the Heavier barrel. I'm measuring around .595 where the original FSB was. What are my options now? Is there a FSB that will fit over it or do I need to have my barrel turned down? Or am I just plain screwed? Thanks,

Danny

You have a heavier barrel .223, and it should measure around .591, and the Bulgy FSB will not fit in its current state. I wouldnt turn the barrel down, but ream out the FSB to fit it. Its going to be easier to ream the removable parts, than to turn down the barrel, IMO.

Just ream out your current front sight block, don't turn down your barrel. If the wheel cylinder hone doesn't work you can use a sanding spindle which can be purchased at most of the big box home repair stores. I've successfully reamed out both of my 308 front sight blocks in order to move them back using the sanding spindle which I put in my drill press. Take your time and test fit often as you can't put material back in the sight block. I know DInzag offers this service for the Saiga 308's but I don't see why he couldn't open yours up for you if you don't want to deal with it.
