I have an Aimpoint H-1 and a Burris Fast Fire II on my competition Saigas.  Both work well but the H-1 has the advantage of more brightness settings and will work when wet.  If you get water on any sight that uses reflected light it can have problems when there is water on the lens.  I'm using Saiga optic mounts from R&R Targets.  Most of the dot sights from C-More, Burris, Aimpoint and Doctor will work fine on your shotgun.  Stay away from sights that cost less than $100, they are cheap junk made in China and will fail when you really need them.

I run a Delta Point on a Arredondo mount now. I busted the original Fast Fire 2 that came on my R&R in one season. I went to the AImpoint R1 (same as the H1 but silver) for a while and its a great sight but I did not care for the forward mounting of the dot. I went with the Arredondo mount because it sticks the sight close to my eye giving me a maximum field of view and this mount also lowers the sight as much as possible to help with off set issues. I use the tip of the triangle sighted in for slugs and I use the whole triangle like a red dot for close in shot targets.

I also had some problems with the Fast Fire 2, but on a pistol not on my shotguns.  Good thing is that Burris stands behind their sights and replaced mine within a few weeks.  The switch I made to the Aimpoint was to get a brighter dot and to prevent problems in the rain  and the position does not bother me.  I like the look of the Arredondo, but I shoot with a short stock and was worried I'd end up with the sight stuck in my face.

Did the FF fail due to normal use on a shotgun? Just wondering about how many rounds it took? I am having good luck with the FF3 so far but am curious at to how long I can expect it to hold up.

I have a FF mounted on the barrel about a foot back from the muzzle so I can co-witness with the original sites if necessary. I guess my question is can a FF stand that abuse? Should I put my Delta Point up there instead? My logic is if it fails I can go to irons although I'd rather not have it fail.

Thanks

John

Edit, I just moved my Deltapoint to my Saiga and my Fast Fire to my CX4 Storm Carbine.

Doug,

I tried them when they initially came out, Arredondo sight mount,  and it wasn't for me.  It makes you have to conform to your presentation of the shotgun, rather than the shotgun conforming to you.

I don't agree. I don't conform to my R&R Saiga. I just snap it up and the sight is there in my face can't miss it. What I really like is the much much larger field of view inside the optic which helps me with airborn clays. To each his own.

I contacted Leupold and they said the Delta Point will handle the where I placed it, and if it did not they would want to talk to me about it. Tomorrow there is a Shotgun/PPC match here in Phoenix I'll most likely use my CX4 but might take my Saiga out for a test run.

Cheers

You don't agree it doesn't work for me?  That is funny!    Do you have the Arredondo Sight Mount or the R&R Sight Mount in the Dove Tail?

I have been manufacturing the reflex sight mounts that bring the sight to the rear of the receiver for six years and I agree it is very effective but I can not move my head forward with the Arredondo sight mount the way I like to do.

But there again, I am building a new shotgun for Taran Butler, National Tripple Crown Winner, and he likes the Arredondo:)

I recently picked up a Saiga 12 and am in the process of converting it to use in competition shooting. I was wondering what optics y'all were running on your Saiga 12s and if you have any recommendations or specific ones to steer away from.

I use the Docter or the C-More STS 8MOA

I don't agree that you have to confrom to the gun with the Arredondo mount. I can't say what works for you obviously. Here are my guns.

The keeper S12 has the common Eoteck mounted using that factory receiver rail. Do not know off hand what model. Has the red circle with the red dot in the middle. Works just fine. At about 25 yards, everything inside the red circle quickly dies.

FWIW, the factory receiver rail had to be removed and relocated. The Eoteck as first mounted was way way off the bore axis. The cure was to remove that pesky receiver rail and shim it with precision spacers. Fun and easy to do. Took one afternoon.

Be sure to consider a scope mount that places the mount and the scope high up enough soss you can get the top cover off without having to remove the scope or mount. I also forgot which manufacturer scope mount I have. Sorry. No factory logo.
