Are VEPR's no longer being imported?

Recommended Posts

What's the deal? I remember rumors of the straight backs coming to the US.

Theres already straight backs here, just not very common. Ive seen a .308 and an x54 so far locally.

I've seen those as well along with .223, but only the guns that were rushed into the country with unfinished stocks. I bought one in .308. Centerfire told me they are no longer being imported so that's why I asked.

It's hard to say how many have came in, and how many will. I hope to score one soon.

Per Ed @ Centerfire they do not know. They believe these were to be the last. But in talks today with persons with close ties to the importers, VEPRs will still be imported. The word is there is going to be "Slant" backs from here on and there is no definitive number of what caliber just yet. Hopefully we will see something just before Christmas. But with anything having to do with firearms, there is always the "Subject to change" clause.

All our future Vepr rifles will be slant cut rear no more straight cut per the discussions with the Russians

Thanks for the info. I wonder why that is? I don't imagine the square backs had any function problems and they would have certainly sold better. I'm just glad they'll continue to be imported. I thought they were done for.
