HighPlainsDrifter 466
Rumors? I heard we'll no longer be seeing straight backs because the factory is no longer making them.
thebuns1 4,323
What's the deal? I remember rumors of the straight backs coming to the US. Theres already straight backs here, just not very common. Ive seen a .308 and an x54 so far locally.
SaigaKen 338
Captain....what was the barrel length on the 54R?
thebuns1 4,323
I believe it was 16", but wasnt looking that close into detail, as I was more concerned about the straight cut receiver.
ShadowFire 220
If you're ok with a fixed stock you can get a slant cut and mount the adapter you can buy. Simple fix these days, it's what I did to my Vepr .308. It was worth it, it hits what I aim at.

I've seen those as well along with .223, but only the guns that were rushed into the country with unfinished stocks. I bought one in .308. Centerfire told me they are no longer being imported so that's why I asked.

avnate 335
Per Ed @ Centerfire they do not know. They believe these were to be the last. But in talks today with persons with close ties to the importers, VEPRs will still be imported. The word is there is going to be "Slant" backs from here on and there is no definitive number of what caliber just yet. Hopefully we will see something just before Christmas. But with anything having to do with firearms, there is always the "Subject to change" clause.
geneticgamer 0
WTF would they go back to slant cuts? I'm pretty sure 922r is just another money trap.
Atlantic Firearms.com 170
All our future Vepr rifles will be slant cut rear no more straight cut per the discussions with the Russians
geneticgamer 0
All our future Vepr rifles will be slant cut rear no more straight cut per the discussions with the Russians Thanks for the info. I wonder why that is? I don't imagine the square backs had any function problems and they would have certainly sold better. I'm just glad they'll continue to be imported. I thought they were done for.
SaigaKen 338
Straight cut would have allowed for alot more furniture options and possibilities for companies to make more money from sales......
