EMT760 0
I was function testing my rifle and i noticed the brass and neck of the bullet have a thin scratch. To me it appears, the bolt rides it and scratches right when it makes contact with the bullet guide. However, when i removed the BG it still does it. Not as drastic
Matthew Hopkins 1,065
a scratch on the casing isn't a concern or a issue Edited November 21, 2013 by Matthew Hopkins
thebuns1 4,323
Its not really a gouge as it is a surface scratch, and won't hurt anything.
Mullet Man 2,114
Yup, seems normal for all the ones I've owned
Rhodes1968 1,638
Its the bolt doing it and its not really an issue if its only a scratch. If it bothers you then polishing, not grinding but polishing, the edges of the bolt lugs will likely eliminate it. You can use your dremel polish pad and some compound to do the job safely, just clean it all up afterward.
Inspector 12 37
The only time a scratch in the case could potentially be a problem is if you were using brass cases and hoping to reload them. Scratched steel shells no big deal. The garbage can won't care....
EMT760 0
The importer wants to send me a " new rifle". Only problem since it's converted doesn't that void the warranty.
Rhodes1968 1,638
Yeah, dont do it. Just polish the bolt
Matthew Hopkins 1,065
just curious, why are so concern about scratch on the casing? it's not a big thing, and pretty much a normal thing when a round gets stripper from the mag and chambered, there is nothing wrong with the rifle. if a scratch gets you wound up, then for pete's sake don't ever in your life buy a HK rifle, you'll go into convulsions when you see what a fluted chamber does to a casing. modrisco 16
Nothing to sweat there, EMT760. That's pretty normal, and certainly no need to swap out your rifle over something like that. As suggested, polish the feed ramp.
thebuns1 4,323
It's normal contact.
Matthew Hopkins 1,065
like was said, that is nothing, a scratch that took a bit of the coating off the casing. no need to return it, polish the BCG or do anything else strange to the rifle
ShadowFire 220
Man that's standard there. Damn near every AK in the world probably does it. Yeah it just scratched off the coating. Provided no setback would develop (You'll know setback when you see it, the bullet gets pushed back into the casing too far, starts looking like the bullet is a knub. lol) you could load that thing in the chamber and extract it 50 times and it would probably still fire and eject cleanly. Shove it in and let it off the chain, have some fun at the range.
