jmccracken88 0
After conversion is done on my saiga 545, will this fit? http://www.atigunstocks.com/ak-stocks/607-ak-47-strikeforce-ultimate-professional-stock-package.html The hand guard wont be used, I have a different one.. Sim_Player 1,939
That should work fine. Almost all AK receivers are the same. That's a ton of money but, it's yours to spend, if you have extra. AK sights aren't great so, if I had limited funds, I would put my money there. A nice scope or red-dot will make a 5.45 a tack-driver. I have a box of parts that didn't work out like I planned. Do what you like and enjoy! jmccracken88 0
Thanks, after further research, I do believe Im going to go with a fixed stock and the magpul grip. As far as optics, looking at the bushnell trs 25 since its $80 and got awesome reviews. And mojo sights will be added soon, also. Any rec. on side mount scope rail? Are they all the same? Sim_Player 1,939
I'm going to have to research mounts for the AK myself. I'm looking at the UTG red dot. Lots of features for the price.
bert7.62x39 10
...if you're planning to buy Mojo sights, I'd assume you might like a co-witnessing capability with your optic and mount. I guess that would rule out certain mount options like any mount that replaces the rear sight, dog leg mounts that use the rear sight base as a hinge point, railed forends that obstruct the irons with rails or side mounts that obstruct the irons. If you like the handguard that you currently have and don't plan to replace it, then a quality side mount that holds and returns to zero and either sits high enough so that you can see the irons beneath it (while still giving you a decent cheek weld and allowing your optic to zero) or low enough that it will co-witness and provide the proper mounting for a Bushnell TRS-25 or whatever you end up buying sounds like what you might want. If you are willing to replace your upper handguard, the Bushnell TRS-25 + Ultimak optic mount combo gets a lot of praise (Ultimaks run about $90 give or take) ...or if you are willing to replace your entire handguard set, Midwest Industries has an optics-specific package that gives you an upper handguard, lower handguard and a Primary Arms microdot (similar to a TRS-25) for $189.95 that will co-witness. For my 7.62x39 Saiga, I decided on a PK-01V Russian red dot optic that came with a low profile mount that sits center over the bore. It allows me to co-witness, the quick release locking lever is tension-adjustable so that it always locks tight, doesn't loosen due to recoil and returns to zero after removing it and putting it back on. The optic + mount together as one unit can usually be found for $299. I'm looking into a VEPR .223 for my next project and I'm pretty certain I'll try the Ultimak or Midwest Industries setup and something like a Bushnell TRS-25, Primary Arms microdot or Burris Fastfire for that. I was going for a more "traditional" Russian setup for my 7.62x39 Saiga but I'll go a little more "modern" or "USA" or whatever for my future VEPR using the above sight/handguard options and maybe an ACE folder or collapsible M4 style stock. Sim_Player 1,939
Co-witness is a luxury. Albeit, a nice one but, one that is hard to justify at that price. With the side mount quick disconnect you can "dumb-down" to irons in a second or two and still have usable sights. That's another good argument against a receiver-mounted rail that may require the removal of the rear sight or any top-mount non-QD.
