First, I have every right to be an ass because I am a lawful gun owner and frequent this forum and don't want it to turn into some fucking weirdo illegal gun / militia bullshit cause of idiots like yo

First of all, instead of being an ass, you could be more specific. Second, i said i JUST got the gun, meaning I haven't bought or added the American parts I need. Third, chill out.

CCCP you've got no right to be an asshole to him. He just fucking got the gun. He put the 30 in for what? Five fucking minutes? Let's see the BATF worry about him putting in an unloaded 30 round magaz

I haven't had time to get to the range lately, but I did get a chance to do a little paint job. Krylon special.

Need lighter rail covers.

I'll likely do a real template and paint it right, just wanted to visualize the concept.

That's not too shabby yourself!

What type of optic are you going to go with? I had originally thought I'd go with a 3-9x40 that I bought, but instead "liberated" my hubby's EOTech for my Marion. We put the scope on the HK SL8 instead. That thing can drive tacks!

I can't believe I just started shooting, I was missing SO much fun!

Wow, Greg, really nice looking rifle!!

I also like bohounds idea of the quick detach sling. Good going girl!!

I've got to thank my husband for that idea. I used to have the sling attach mounted at the mounting point on the T6 butt, but he drilled a hole under the tag, put a stainless eye bolt through, filed a bit here and there, and voila!

I like it too- sits in the right place, just like his three point (I think that's what it is called), and it IS a quick detach.

Funny thing is: It's the Tapco sling system with a few slight mods, in one point carry configuration.

Picked up and fired today. No mods yet, but they are on their way.

Is there a way to keep my Saiga stock config. & still use high cap mags.

From what I read, I though you could use "Surefire" mags replace the forearm and be in business?

"This US made magazine meets requirements for three 922r compliant parts."

922 ® COMPLIANCE - Automatic CHECKLIST Use to verify if you are compliant

Then I read

"The easiest solution is to only own US-made magazines, of course, but this is not always feasible, particularly if no US-made magazines are available for the weapon in question or, for legal reasons, you can't buy domestic full-capacity magazines to replace your old imported magazines."

Now I'm more confused.

The US mags (Surefire is the ONLY reliable one I know of) will count as three US made parts... You'll still need to add at least one to be 922r compliant. A lot of the folks I've seen on this forum that want to remain relatively stock add a US gas piston or muzzle device.

Of course, there is always the (stock) Tapco FCG... I think Dinzag sells it. Other internals like the mainspring will also count towards compliance if I'm not mistaken. JTE sells a mainspring that I am seriously sold on in my rifle.

You have to ask yourself though: What is the purpose of my rifle? Why would one even desire the high cap mags in the stock configuration?

Good luck with rapid fire and the stock FCG- You'll need it to even attempt to stay on the paper.

thanks bohound & aksarben. i have ordered (via ebay) a PO 3-9x45 scope. i think its just plain jane but thats ok. it was 85$ shipped from the ukraine, so hopefully it will be in soon. i think it has been 16 days since it was shipped. it has an eye relief of 70mm, that should be appropriate with a warsaw stock. i may need a different mount though. the saiga one i have may sit to rearward. ill post pics when it arrives.

Sorry, not the main spring. The 3 parts of the fire control group are the trigger, sear and disconnect. Most non looking (IE remains virtually stock) configuration is the gas piston.

BTW, Greg, what is that flash hider on the rifle? Looks like a bird cage and that was what I was looking for.

Scope is the result of playing too many video games =). No its a Russian pilad p4x32L. Has the whole lit chevron/reticule thing. Thought about getting a posp scope but this can be mounted to any of my other rifles as well. It usually wears the bushnell M&P trophy dot sight. Stock is ACE with a cheek riser.

This rifle is a 223 saïga with 12.5" barrel that comes with 24/1 aksu style flash hider. This was removed in a first time form a bulgarian one (that looks like a noveske) and now there is a VORTEX noise reductor. This is fully legal in France. It is used by some of our troops in A'stan and some of your SF seems to appreciate it.

Magazine is a 223 Saïga original mag bought with the gun.

Littlebigman, I took a closer look at your Saiga rifle. It has the '3rd' hole for the automatic timing, which is near and above the magazine release. Is this a select fire Saiga as well as being a short barrel? So, the Izhmash factory does make larger capacity magazines for this rifle it would appear.

Also not many people put 2 dots above their " i " as in your word, "Saïga" (smïlïng)

This comes in semi autaomatic only in France, full auto is not allowed for civilians shooters, I'll make some pics of the magazines soon, but yes they are 30 rounds factory and they work well. But the price!!! Hell it's about 60usd a mag...

In fact as my dealer told me, new SAIGA in 7.62/39 will accept military mags

I've only had the saiga craze for about a month. Impulse bought the in stock .223 instead of the 7.62 that I really wanted, so I haven't gone with the whole trigger swap thinga-ma-jig.

bluckbloudn1.jpg

What is the barrel length? Also is that customized original hand guard? How? I have the exact same plans with mine, no trigger job but a stock and was going to add handguard that matched. Although if I did not also do the handguard larger capacity mags are out.

Got together today with a friend who is a great mechanic and fabricator. 4 hours later (I had to run off for an hour and do "family" stuff), my Saiga 223 was converted...just a couple of small tweaks needed.

Still need to:

Install the FCG retaining plate I ordered today (I'm re-using the spring right now and it's held in place by a drilled out pin),

Get out and shoot the gun to be sure it's functioning properly,

Paint the bottom of the receiver,

Install a Galil style front handguard,

Paint all plastic parts with Krylon Fusion and bake it on.

I won't rehash the basics of a conversion. However, here's what I found...

The spot weld must be made from German tank armor (someone else said that, I agree). It was a job to get it drilled!

I cut the BHO a hair too short. When it is pushed in to catch the bolt, it's darn near flush with the receiver.

Had to add a bushing to the folding stock mechanism to disable it or it would have been an "illegal" length. I'll change the brass collar to a plastic or polymer when I get ready to paint.

The maglock is pretty basic and not really that great (it does the job, though). If anyone has suggestions and links for a high quality maglock, please let me know!

Black nylon plugs from Ace Hardware look just like rivet heads! 25 cents each.

Overall, I'm thrilled that this is done. It was fun, a little challenging (everything good usually is) and turned out pretty decently. The improvement in trigger quality is worth the effort all by itself!

My buddy Rick deserves a huge thank you. His skill was invaluable!

SOMEONE! Please help me with attaching photos! Thanks
