Alexc.s. 25
Big update to my Saiga since I posted pics last. Modified the safety to flick on and off with the help of a 90* bent steal washer welded to stick out. Think it turned out fairly well for using the cheap tapco tri rail as I did. TomInProv 1
Here's mine, not finished, just started yesterday. I put in the G2 trigger, CSS trigger guard, VLTOR Imod stock, MAA rear trunion, Hogue Grip, Tromix charging handle, and all coated in Teflon.
Saigagenesis 0
Here's what it used to look like... Kinda miss the hybrid look it had but I REALLY like having a vertical foregrip. The light probably won't always be on there but for the moment why not? Other than that, a G3 style rotating drum rear sight will be mounted on the dust cover very soon...may not be the most stable rear peep option out there but I'm positive it should make my groups tighter than what they are, and it looks great Hey, just curious, but it appears that with your rail mount handguard you still have the factory saiga gas tube and no handguard retainer. Is that so? If so, does that handguard not require the regular ak gas tube and retainer? Thanks

zero2epiphany 4
I discovered aluma hyde and thought geeeee, well I spent my saiga .308 money (again) on something else so back again to the trusty .223 project gun. Now with a flat black and od green finish. Guess you are never really done.
Joseph 141
Its a Saiga, so there is ALLWAYS something left to do

tripletdadOH 0
My .223.Finally have it done to my satisfaction...for now. How do you like the Rhineland forearm? And how'd you finish it? I really like the forearm. Its definitely well built/solid.Adds some weight to the front compared to the factory one,but the bp-02/red dot help even that out.I also modified the front of the forearm a bit.I didn't like the straight cut it had so I shaved it a little bit.It feels better in the hand compared to the factory one and heat is a non-issue. I finished it with 3 coats of tung oil.I didn't want a real glossy finish and that stuff is easy to use. Here is a couple more pics of the forearm...
THX1138 7
tripletdadOH, I really like the way the wood looks on the forarm. You have a great looking rifle. Edited July 19, 2011 by THX1138

Interesting... So it attaches with some sort of U-clamp over the barrel?
tripletdadOH 0
Thanks THX for the kind words... Yeah it attaches with a u shaped metal bracket thats threaded for 2 provided allen bolts at the barrel. The part that goes into the receiver is just like the factory hand guard.Once I mounted it I loc tited the bolts. It definitely ain't going anywhere. Similar furniture setup but not an SBR. That is probably the coolest S-223 ive ever seen. Well I got a lot done. Still need the handgaurd and tech sights but for the most part its finished. Here it is. Edited July 20, 2011 by foreign firearm fiend

fraser91084 0
finally got a setup i'm happy with. got the barrel threaded with an A2 style flash hider, then the ultimak scout mount is perfect for the bushnell trs-25. great cheek weld and saves weight. makes the rifle great for snap shooting. now it's light enough for a one point sling. THX1138 7
Here is my .223, finally got the mount and scope on it. It is a lot of fun to shoot. The other gun is my 1915 Danzig Israeli Mauser that I rebuilt -- it was a complete basket case.
fraser91084 0
that mauser looks awesome. is that the original wood stock?
THX1138 7
that mauser looks awesome. is that the original wood stock? Thank you very much fraser. Only part of the stock is original. It was a basket case, and the wood on the sides of the stock were rotted to hell. I wanted to keep as much of the gun as I could, so I cut off the sides (the center of the original stock was still good) and used some wood from my brothers bow making supplies and laminated pieces to each side of the center piece then I cut, chiseled and ground out the new wood to fit. I thought the wood was walnut colored and I could stain it to match the center section. It is actually myrtle wood and you couldn't see the pattern until I stained it. In retro-spec, I wish I would have made the entire stock out of it. The gun has a new .308 barrel, hand lapped bolt, custom trigger, and we refinished and hot blued in my shop. I was going hunting for the first time with my brother in 20 years, so I told the wife I needed a new rifle (and it worked). I mostly fire 200 grain lead bullets out of it and it will consistently print a 1 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yards. My eyes are getting old so I put the scope on the rear sight (didn't want to drill any more holes in it), the mount works pretty good. I am building another Saiga in 5.45, then I am going to finish up a Russian Capture 8mm Mauser into a sniper model. I built the rifle for a pig hunt, kind of fancy stock to be kicking around the brush. Edited August 20, 2011 by THX1138
fraser91084 0
sounds like some fun projects. those mauser actions are great. i'm sure the .308 will put some smack down on some hogs. i shoot them all the time with 62 grain .223 out of my saiga and 90% of the time it's a one shot deal, but i will admit getting my ak scratched up in the brush is more of a badge on honor than a hassle. i dig the "bobba fett" look. i would probably feel guilty as well taking such a nice finish in and out of the truck on a bumpy ranch rd in search of hogs. haha
