Aeromat209 24
I will have the barrel cut down so the pinned overall barrel length would be 16.25" . I have the Russian copy from CSS . Is there a better out there now maybe Bone steel any others or is the Russian copy GTG? The thought was if the Bone steel and the Russian copy were equal taming recoil and M rise it looked like the Bonesteel would be easier to keep clean ! ec4321 113
Bonesteel is a great brake. I have one pinned to my vepr. However, beware they shave the wad or something, as debris flys out the sides and hits people standing on a firing line beside the shooter. Can be annoying or dangerous. My brother got crap in his eye the first time I fired it. Bonesteel needs to open these up a bit, once he does, I will get another.
Aeromat209 24
Thanks Pal ! That is exactly the hands on info I need to know . It's the old if it ain't broke don't fixit as I already have the CSS Russian copy and have not had any issues with it after 300 rounds !
jdtravers 637
I hope you got your numbers messed up since 16.25 is legal for a rifle, but a shotgun must be no less than 18.000 OAL, except for SBSs of course. Jack
sunnybean 939
First, you must go 18+" to get out of any NFA issues on a shotgun. If I were going that route, I would buy a real GK-01 and have it pinned on. You won't find a more effective brake.
MCASgt New River 10,036
Unless you have an FFL/SOT manufacturing license you can't cut below 18 inches regardless if you blind pin and silver solder tugs brake on. Once you cut below 18 your in possession of an unregistered SBS. JUST MY TWO CENTS THOUGH... I'm sure o others will come in as this has come up before on the S12 side of the house MANY, MANY times. Aeromat209 24
I mis typed I meant 18.25 OAL with muzzle brake Pinned and silver soldered by a FFL/SOT . I had a Saiga-12 from Lone Star that had the OAL of 18.25 with a 5 " Monster Brake Pinned and Silver soldered . I need to find out what the gas port dimensions need to be changed to in order to operate correctly with the short barrel length .

Gunny NR Gunny is correct about this. Unless you have lawfully registered the shotgun as an SBS with ATF NFA branch , and have a $200 NFA tax stamp for your shotgun, as an unlicensed person (this means that you are not an type 07 or 10 FFL with an 02 SOT), cutting the barrel below 18" for any amount of time, regardless of your reason for doing so, will make you an instant felon. http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/national-firearms-act-short-barreled-rifles-shotguns.html#receiver-sale Q: May a FFL or an individual legally possess the parts to manufacture an SBR or SBS as long as no firearms are actually assembled? A FFL (Type-7 or Type-10) who pays the Special Occupational Tax (SOT) may possess parts required to assemble NFA firearms. A non-licensee or FFL who has not paid the SOT is required to register any NFA firearm via an ATF Form 1 (5320.1) prior to acquisition of the parts required to assemble such firearm. Lone Star Arms 2,047
This subject has been recycled, over, and over, and over again on this forum. The question has been asked and answered. Contact information for ATF NFA branch has been posted in this thread. I strongly suggest that anyone with questions regarding NFA rules and regulations go directly to the source, and direct questions to a specialist at NFA branch. I sincerely doubt that you will receive a different opinion, but if you do, please get it in writing. Otherwise, you can argue about it (not with me - I'm intractable), until you are blue in the face. I chimed in, because one of the mods requested that I do so. One thought I will leave you with is that saying something over, and over, and over again on an internet forum, does not make it so. Mike
