gunman1 1,753
I have never owned or shot an AR platform of any kind, so please excuse my ignorance. I was at my favorite local shop today just sootin the shit with the owner and decided to fondle an M&P10 .308 he had the rifle case. The gun is used but is not beat up at all. It comes with 16" chrome lined barrel, one 10 round mag, Magpul ACS furniture in drab green, no sights. He is advertising it for just under $1,400.00, told me I could have it for $1,200.00. Since I don't know anything about them, I really don't know if it is a good deal or not. I do know that he doesn't deal in worn out junk, and I've bought many other firearms from him. I have come close to buying an AR style weapon in the past but the cost for anything decent in .308 was just too way much. Your thoughts please.
gunfun 3,931
That sounds like a reasonable price to me. IIRC those were in the $1800 range as new and got pretty good reviews. I haven't used that exact model, but it would probably be on my short list for the type. That or the ruger piston gun. All the better if it comes with glass.

Yeah....I also fondled a Sig piston gun while I was there, way heavier and a lot more money, but very nicely constructed.
YOT 3,743
$1200 is a fair price, especially dressed in the magpul furniture. M&P are very reliable AR platform guns. The accuracy should be outstanding.
gunfun 3,931
Does it come with a few mags? That would add towards the value pretty quickly. I'd sure prefer a model that takes normal mags or p-mags over one that only uses one brand of hard to find expensive mags.

So are you saying that the mags for this gun are proprietary? that's the kind of stuff I need to know also. The shop owner said that they were hoping to get 20 rounders pretty soon, I guess that should have been telling.

I was saying that they work with the P-mags. The actual AR-10 branded guns are more picky about mags than most of the others. I'm not an expert, but I'd prefer one like this that allows me to use ~$20 reliable mags over one that requires pretty much only $45 metal mags.

I haven't heard anything that would turn me away, except that the gas system is not as forgiving to dirt/dirty ammo, as a piston gun is, least that's what the owner told me. I don't have any more room in the safe, unless I find a way to hang them by the barrels. Has anyone done this yet?
nlacy 692
I have a couple of M&P 15 ars and was excited to hear that they were coming out with a 308 ar. But when I actually saw it, I thought "shit, that's ugly." Not quite keltec ugly, but close.
gunman1 1,753
Well, I went to the gun shop after work today and discovered that they sold it. I'm not to bothered by it though because I learned a lot about the platform that I never knew, which I can use for a future procurement. I can tell the shop owner what my budget is and he'll find the right one for me. I guess I just like ugly guns cause I didn't see anything wrong with the way that one looked, except the Magpul furniture was green, wtf Thanks to all of you that posted to this thread, I learned several good things from it. I will have an M&P-10 to go with my S-308, just a matter of time.......
nlacy 692
I have to admit I've been thinking about the DPMS Recon in 308
