Pros and Cons of the New(er) IZ-433 Saiga 12

Recommended Posts

A local forum I frequent is doing a group buy with these http://legionusainc.com/iz-433-saiga-12-030-type.html

To be honest I haven't been paying a whole lot of attention to Saigas for the past year or two so I didn't even realize this was available.

Can you guys tell me the pros and cons of this newer model? I would plan on converting it. Are there any surprises that I should know about before buying? I don't want to buy it and have a conversion in mind just to find out its not possible.

Thanks

Here's a start...  http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/92285-iz-433-owners-help-a-new-owner-out/

My preference is to keep this model all Russian or as close to original for 922r...

  • 100 series poly folder w/ buttpad
  • md arms molot style pistol grip or similar
  • riveted S-12 trigger guard w/ extended plate
  • railed gas block
  • factory railed hand guard
  • md arms Russian birdcage flash hider or similar

Keep in mind this equation may need to be further tweaked to meet 922r.  Weld up them left over holes and you have yourself a nice rig.  Farm out the work and it might cost you 2 grand.  Do it yourself and it will be considerably less.

I think that model is a bargain at list price. Assume $150 to convert it with something like KVAR stock Now you have essentially a slightly lighter V12 with aluminum top rail, and every desirable feature for less cost. Quality is about the same

Pros LRBHO, magwell, sights, rail, no gas settings.

Cons: magwell mags only, so less choices more cost. No drums or DS or steel., No gas settings. It isn't self regulating (nor is the V12) it's more like drilling an extra port and leaving your gas block on a setting between 1 and 2 for everything. You'd have a couple axis pin holes if you don't fill them.

So if those are features you want, it comes down to what kind of stock you want. If you want the factory folder on the $1200 V12, Treat that gun as $1350 after 922r and buy it. If you want any other stock, choose this one.

Great info. Thanks. I was just concerned that there was something different about them other than what I could see in the pictures or what the description was. I knew that with the magwell you couldn't run drums, which I never have so thats no biggie. I plan on buying a Vepr too eventually, but thats a whole separate thread. I signed for the Tromix build this year, and don't really want to send them my 22" barreled Saiga so maybe this one could be the one.

You have possibly considered this but putting it out there for discussion. The downside to you getting the 433 is magazine consolidation or in your case the lack of with your other build. I am currently in this situation and ready to sell the Iz-109 for this very reason.
