Tundra1 391 Posted January 21, 2014 Report Share Posted January 21, 2014 In high school my Dad handed me down his 78 Chevy C5 Blazer. It sported a 250 c.i. inline six cylinder. The topper was removable and was left off from about April to October. It didn't mind a little rain on the interior. I sold this truck my freshman year of college and between my dad and me we figured the odometer rolled twice and was reading 30-something thousand miles when it sold, still running very well but very rusty. I know the transmission had been replaced at one point because it had been converted from a three on the tree to a three on the floor. Other than that I just put gas in it. I sure miss these old trucks, makes me want to find one to fix up a little bit and just drive it. What kind high mileage car/trucks have you owned? Quote Link to post Share on other sites

It was a 2001 Toyota Solara 2.2ltr 4cyl. Its a 2dr Camry coupe. I bought it used with 81K miles and sold it with 240K miles. I had it from 2005 to 2013 and it never once needed anything serious replaced or broke down all of a sudden. Everything mechanical was original, engine, trans, starter, alternator, even the rotors and all the light were original. In that whole time the only thing I HAD TO replace were the struts and the radiator. Both around the 200K mark. Preventive maintnance was done every 100k because the car still used a belt and not a chain. So with the belt the waterpump was also changed along with the plugs and wires. That is it. Probably twice. The original 260 engine was worn out so I went to rebuild it and found it had already been rebuilt and bored over as much as it could be. Had to be scrapped. So I put in a used 302 and it spun a bearing the first week. I parked it and eventually sold it. Of every car I've ever had I miss that Caliente the most. Billybobf 50 Posted January 21, 2014 Report Share Posted January 21, 2014 My current toyota 4runner has 345k miles on it, changed out the head at 320k due to corrosion, rod bearings at 330k, still original block, pistons and rings, lots of other upgrades though, was an auto til 320k, put a five speed in while swapping head. My 78 vw rabbit had records showing close to 570k when I sold it. Now, we did have an 07 Prius we bought brand new, in 17 months we put 47k miles on that. Had about 345K when I sadly sold her. Had a self built muldane BC 2 444 Cummins diesel truck engine with Jake with the famous, (infamous) RTO 910 10 speed Roadranger tranny. Do about 85. Ran OK. csspecs 1,987 Posted January 22, 2014 Report Share Posted January 22, 2014 I have 87,000 actual miles on a 96' Plymouth Neon.. Its a Neon so the miles are multiplied by 4 (kinda like dog years). Because getting over 50,000 is an accomplishment.... So in Neon miles is 348K My current repair list for parts is higher than blue book, however it still drags itself down the road like a wounded beast, both tragic and majestic...(ok maybe not majestic) When you drive it the hours and miles actually feel significantly longer.. Its nice in this fast paced pleasure driven world to be able to slow down time and focus on the pure misery of driving a Neon,, Everytime I get in I say: "Wow, I really hate this car." 3 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Now it's all mine and we've seen 190,400 miles together. No rust anywhere. Starter and battery replaced at 80,000 miles. Original brakes and tires replaced at 110,000 miles. Fan blower and cracked radiator replaced last summer (took me 1 hour). I still get 33 mpg, consistently. I told my wife, I'll drive it until it dies. It's too bad GM shit-canned the brand. I'd rather have a Camaro but, whatever, it's paid for. We've been living on a shoe-string budget for about 7 years now and putting a daughter through a four-year college isn't cheap. Go Cougs! It was a good car, but nickeled and dimed me near the end. Sometimes it seems, its better to have a couple hundred a month go for a car payment, rather than scattered, unexpected repairs that drain you when you least expect it. Bought it from my uncle with 125K on the clock in 1997, puked a rod bearing at 475K in 2002. '93 Ford F-150 4x4 5.8L/E4OD FIL gave it to us with 110K on it in 2004, son wrecked it and rebuilt the body at 189K, sold it for parts with 289K on it. I currently have an 89 jetta diesel, and push a 4.3 at 4k rpm 8hrs a day 6 days a week, someone else drives it on my day off, good engine for sure! Mullet Man 2,114 Posted January 22, 2014 Report Share Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) I just sold my '99 Cherokee sport, 4.0 a4 on 33's showing 276k on the odo (I figure closer to 290k with those tires and the previous 31's on it)....I overheated it twice, destroyed (literally destroyed) one trans bellhousing and one complete transfer case (internals hanging out of it) and my cousin is still driving it. Woulda gone more than that for sure if I hadn't run it so low on oil (it was more thirsty than I thought) at 190k... #2. '93 Escort.. 1.9l 5-speed. 204k/miles... There is no sign of this car dying any time soon. It doesn't use a drop of oil between changes. I had to replace the valve cover gasket a couple of years back... When I did the top of the motor looked factory perfect... This is a win for Mazda engineering (sorry boys, the "Ford" Escort was all Mazda) and I'm considering piling them up out back like Taxi cabs. #3. '98 S-10, 2.2L, 5 speed... Sold it with 184k on the clock and running like perfection. There was a rumor in its history that it had a junk yard motor at around 100k... Reading what I have about the 2.2L, I believe it. It was still an awesome truck. #0 (HA!!! Fooled you!): '83 AMC Eagle WAGON!!!... 4.2 / 5 speed. At least 240k on the clock.. It barely ran when I got it.. I take care of my own stuff and as old as this thing is it's still tight and rust free, doesn't leak or burn oil and pretty much drives through anything. I have a job that requires me to get to work no matter how bad things are and knock on wood it's never let me down. Keep your oil changed, keep your oil changed, keep your oil changed!
